Creature Commandos snuck a first-look trailer into SDCC 2024

As a long-time comic book fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but feel excited about the latest announcement coming out of San Diego Comic-Con 2024. DC Comics has always been a part of my life, from collecting comic books as a kid to immersing myself in video games based on these iconic characters. And now, with James Gunn at the helm, I’m intrigued to see what new stories and adventures await us.

Previously announced, DC Comics didn’t plan a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this year due to James Gunn’s hectic schedule as the new director of Superman. However, we speculated if DC would unveil any major surprises despite the absence. Indeed, during the “Jim Lee & Friends” panel, the first teaser trailer for Creature Commandos, a Max series spearheading Gunn’s new DC film and TV universe, was introduced. This animated show presents a revamped Suicide Squad roster comprised solely of non-human characters.

As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to share that the animated series of “The Suicide Squad” brings back some familiar faces from the live-action films. Not only do we get to see Viola Davis reprise her role as Amanda Waller, who was previously featured in “Peacemaker,” “Black Adam,” and both versions of “Suicide Squad,” but we also have Steve Agee returning as John Economos. These talented actors truly bring their characters to life!

In addition to Michael Cudlitz as Hewlett, the voice cast of this animated series features Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Senior, Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, and Sean Gunn providing the voice for G.I. Robot.

As a longtime fan of DC comics and movies, I’m thrilled to hear that James Gunn has officially kicked off the “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters,” which is set to introduce a new era for DC’s live-action films and TV shows. With Gunn’s unique storytelling abilities, I have high expectations for this new chapter, especially since it shares some similarities with the quirky humor of “Harley Quinn.”

A special unit called “Creature Commandos” follows the covert activities of a group of imprisoned monsters, who are called upon for perilous tasks that are considered too risky for humans to handle. In desperate situations, these creatures serve as the final and least desirable choice.
