Creators of Evil Blast Business Model After Show’s Sudden Cancellation

Currently, Robert and Michelle King, a talented husband-and-wife team, are steering popular television and streaming shows. They are the creators and executive producers of series such as Evil, Elsbeth, and Happy Face, which have earned them numerous accolades. The suspenseful show Evil, initially aired on CBS but was later moved to Paramount+ in 2021. Unfortunately, it was canceled in 2024, and its final episode was broadcast in August.

According to him, it appears that there is already enough content available, leaving no room for ‘Evil.’ In his opinion, it was an irrational decision, and he thinks the entire business of television is foolish.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve been hooked on the gripping saga of Evil – a thrilling series that masterfully weaves together the lives of three diverse characters: Dr. Kristen Bouchard, a forensic psychologist played by the exceptional, , David Acosta, a former war journalist turned Catholic priest, portrayed by another talented actor, , and Aasif Mandvi as Ben Shakir, an atheist. For four enthralling seasons, Evil has gripped both viewers and critics with its compelling characters, engrossing plots, and stunning cinematography, proving to be a shining example of superior television. Robert King, the brilliant mind behind this series, recognized the immense potential in Evil, believing it was precisely the kind of innovative and thought-provoking content that modern television had been yearning for.

Many TV writers aspire to emulate the cinematic experience, and I believe that ‘Evil’ manages to achieve this. With its visually striking scenes rivaling those found in movies, ‘Evil’ is a perfect blend of various artistic elements. The monstrous characters, skillfully crafted by the creative team, complement Fred Murphy’s exceptional cinematography beautifully. The production design, which plays a crucial role in setting the show’s mood, is also commendable. Lastly, the cast is undeniably impressive. It would be delightful if this series received more recognition.

When an actor truly believes they have the role of a lifetime, it’s as if they’re shouting their excitement from the rooftops. Katja Herbers, the star of the chilling series “Evil,” clearly reveled in portraying Dr. Kristen Bouchard, expressing her sorrow when filming the final episodes, hinting at her deep connection to the character.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this series and cherished the team we collaborated with – not only those in front of the camera but also those behind. It was as if we had received some dire health news, and we were facing our own mortality. While filming, I felt a mix of gratitude and sadness, constantly thinking ‘Oh my god, I’m so grateful, and I’m so sad, and now I’m having such a great time.’ I savored each moment, while striving to produce quality work and stay focused. The last four episodes were unique compared to our usual production process due to their rapid pace and reduced budget, making the transition from one episode to another, at times within a day, an exhilarating rollercoaster ride.
