Crazy Town singer Shifty Shellshock died of fentanyl and other drugs, coroner confirms

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours delving into the lives and struggles of artists, I find the story of Shifty Shellshock‘s tragic demise a poignant reminder of the complexities that often plague those in the limelight. His life, like a rollercoaster ride, was marked by highs and lows, fame and struggle, triumph and tragedy – a tale as old as showbiz itself.

Further details have emerged regarding the demise of Crazy Town’s lead vocalist, Shifty Shellshock, who passed away in June. This information surfaced about three months later.

On Tuesday, the medical examiner in Los Angeles County disclosed the official reason behind the performer’s demise, corroborating information that had earlier been shared by his manager. It was determined that Seth “Shifty Shellshock” Binzer passed away as a result of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, according to the coroner’s database. His death was classified as an accident.

Binzer, a Los Angeles native and reality star, died June 24 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 49.

In 1995, Shawn “Binzer” Biniazan established Crazy Town together with his partner Bret “Epic” Mazur. This band became well-known in the early 2000s for their chart-topping songs “Butterfly” and “Starry Eyed Surprise.

Following the tragic demise of my beloved artist, their manager, Howie Hubberman, shared that they had succumbed to an unintended drug overdose. Despite Binzer’s valiant attempts to conquer their drug addiction, it seemed they were never able to find a more effective way to manage their struggles, as expressed by Hubberman in an interview with People magazine in June.

He added: “We all tried, but ultimately, we all failed, or Shifty would still be here.”

As a cinephile, I can confirm that Hubberman revealed to a magazine that Binzer’s demise was a tragic mix of prescribed medications and illicit substances procured from the streets. He further emphasized that the musician was not only a dear friend but also yearned deeply for his well-being, expressing his desire to help him overcome his struggles.

In the years between 2008 and 2010, Binzer candidly shared his battles with addiction by featuring on reality TV shows titled “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Sober House.

After parting ways with his initial spouse and experiencing an unexpected surge in popularity and prosperity, he shared that Dr. Drew’s “Celebrity Rehab” program was beneficial for him, as he expressed during an interview on NOVA FM back in 2012.

“I went in there more like I want to get myself together so I can continue what I love doing.”
