Craig Revel Horwood insists Strictly Come Dancing will 'rise above what has happened' after scandal hit BBC show was rocked by bullying allegations

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the ongoing scandal surrounding Strictly Come Dancing has been quite a rollercoaster. However, it seems that Craig Revel Horwood remains optimistic about the show’s future and its ability to rise above the recent allegations. His long-standing dedication to the program is commendable, and his unwavering spirit is inspiring.

Craig Revel Horwood expressed his view that the show can transcend the accusations of bullying as it begins its 20th season next month.

The ongoing controversy involves several accusations of inappropriate conduct, resulting in the departures of Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice from their long-standing role on the Saturday evening show.

After the recent controversy, the BBC has established a fresh set of rules for the program, aiming to prevent its cancellation.

59-year-old Judge Craig admits to Women’s Weekly that he eagerly anticipates the show and feels like he’s simply a fixture within it.

He expressed his belief that the show can overcome the recent events, and he truly hopes it does. The show has an infectious energy that people would be disappointed to see it end. He eagerly anticipates each new season, feeling like he’s grown quite attached to it.

As a lifestyle expert, I share that, much like many of us, my wedding plans with my partner, Jonathan Myring, have taken an unexpected turn. Originally set for some time in the future, we’ve decided to postpone our big day once more, and now it’s scheduled for the year 2027. The journey to this moment has been filled with lessons and adaptability, but the anticipation of our special day remains as vibrant and exciting as ever.

He explained: ‘It’s going to be the longest engagement ever – there’s a date in the diary for 2027. It’s been a right old royal mess but we will get there eventually.’

He mentioned: “I wished my mom could also be present for this occasion. Unfortunately, she had cancer 10 years ago and was declared cancer-free, but unfortunately, it has returned. She’s not well enough to travel this year, so we’ve decided to wait until she recovers. I’ve said that I’ll walk down the aisle using a Zimmer frame, but since Jonathan joined the ambulance service, at least I’ll have someone taking care of me! There’s a bit of strategy in my unconventional plans!”

In light of BBC executives reducing the budget for the upcoming 20th season of Strictly Come Dancing, following a string of scandals potentially requiring settlements for previous performers, here’s my perspective as a devoted fan:

According to reports from the corporation, the production budget for the main program was reduced following the Strictly bullying controversy.

Instead funding has been diverted to increased welfare measures on the dance show.

Employers express worry about potential additional financial difficulties due to ex-celebrities preparing to file complaints alleging maltreatment while they were part of the program.

According to a source, funds were needed to cover expenses like chaperones and production of wellbeing services, and it’s unclear how much the ongoing allegations will end up costing the program. Needless to say, it won’t be inexpensive. A choice was made to trim down the cast members.

This year’s celebrity lineup, revealed earlier this month, left many Strictly fans feeling disappointed due to the lower casting budget that was evident.

I found myself puzzled alongside many others, trying to identify less familiar faces like Dr. Punam Krishnan from the world of television and Tasha Ghouri, a previous contestant on Love Island.

According to the source, only two participants from this year’s group stand a chance of winning big prizes, specifically DIY SOS host Nick Knowles and football analyst Paul Merson.

‘They stated that this line-up represents one of our most affordable offerings to date. However, we understand that fans might be disheartened considering the exceptional caliber of stars we’ve had over the past five years.’

The 20th anniversary series of Strictly, set to air on September 14, has dealt another setback to its organizers, who had initially harbored high expectations for this show.

A fresh team of production crew will oversee the ongoing production, ensuring close supervision of the celebrity actors. They’ll always be on hand during rehearsals to catch any hints of unacceptable conduct.

The leadership at the BBC was compelled to implement strong measures to enhance safety for celebrities on their shows, following accusations of mistreatment from figures such as actress Amanda Abbington and ex-reality TV personality Zara McDermott.

Last year, allegations of bullying were made against Pernice, the longest-standing male professional on Strictly, by his fellow dancer Abbington during rehearsals. An investigation by the BBC is currently ongoing regarding these accusations. However, Pernice, aged 33, strenuously denies any involvement in such misconduct.

According to The Mail on Sunday’s report, Pernice was cleared of any wrongdoing following Abbington’s allegations. Sources within the BBC stated that no proof was found indicating that Pernice had behaved in a bullying manner towards her.

However, it’s reported that the actress is showing remarkable determination in her case, taking a final risky move, or as friends of Pernice put it, making ‘one more roll of the dice’. This is done by disclosing a brief video clip he sent via WhatsApp to her, to the BBC.

Sources within the Corporation say it is ‘sex-related’ but in its nature was ‘very much banter’.

According to a source, ‘Amanda is hanging onto this as her final hope, given that it’s the only substantial evidence she has against Giovanni.’

The report’s findings are not expected until next month.
