Craig Melvin will succeed Hoda Kotb as co-host of NBC’s ‘Today’
As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with a penchant for delving into the behind-the-scenes of television productions, I must say the recent announcement by NBC’s “Today” has piqued my interest. With Craig Melvin stepping up to take over from Hoda Kotb, it seems that family values and continuity reign supreme in this beloved morning franchise.
NBC’s “Today” is keeping the selection of its next co-host in the family.
On Thursday, it was revealed that Craig Melvin, who has been with us since 2016 as part of our morning team, will be stepping into Hoda Kotb’s role starting January 14th. During the show’s primary hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., he will sit alongside Savannah Guthrie in Hoda’s seat.
As a passionate movie buff speaking from my perspective, I, at the ripe age of 60, stepped down from my role following the decision to replace Matt Lauer after his dismissal over sexual misconduct claims back in 2017. Come September, I made the personal choice to devote more time to my cherished young children and explore new horizons.
At present, Melvin, aged 44, is serving as both a news anchor and co-presenter during the third hour of the show. Additionally, he oversees the syndicated edition of the true crime news magazine titled “Dateline.
NBC News anticipates Melvin will manage a seamless transition, given his familiarity to the show’s regular audience. Throughout his career on “Today,” he has conducted significant political interviews, frequently reporting from major news events, and even participated in NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games and six Super Bowls.
I’ve demonstrated my versatility and skillset to handle the diverse spectrum of content we present at ‘Today,’ as expressed by Libby Leist, our senior vice president, on Thursday. Remarkably, I manage to maintain my unique Southern charisma throughout.
Originating from South Carolina, he began his tenure with NBC News in the year 2011. Prior to this, he served as the weekend anchor at WRC, NBC’s broadcast station located in Washington D.C. Notably, he is married to Lindsay Czarniak, a seasoned sports reporter and anchor who has previously worked for both Fox and ESPN.

Besides writing “Pops,” Melvin has penned a heartfelt memoir detailing his unique bond with his father, who successfully conquered struggles with alcoholism and gambling.
Melvin will still be joining Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Sheinelle Jones as they co-host the third hour of “Today” together.
NBC News has decided to find a suitable replacement for Hala Kotb on the 10 am segment of their program that she hosts with Jenna Bush Hager, and in the meantime, they will be calling this hour “Jenna & Friends.” They are yet to appoint a permanent co-host.
