Courtney Love wants Dave Grohl to publicly confirm they’ve resolved their differences, hoping it will stop his fans from harassing her.
Courtney Love, who was married to the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, was a guest on Billy Corgan’s podcast, The Magnificent Others, on Wednesday.
The 61-year-old, originally from San Francisco, discussed her relationship with the 57-year-old former Nirvana drummer on a podcast. She urged him to publicly acknowledge they’re on good terms and to simply be honest about it.
Courtney Love says Foo Fighters fans are still being unkind to her, mistakenly believing she has a problem with Dave Grohl.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Grohl for comment but has yet to hear back.
Love believes Grohl is still reluctant to publicly support her because he worries his fans might react negatively.
The singer of Doll Parts said it would be helpful if her core audience of straight white men would stop criticizing her.
‘The millennials in particular. Gen Z is not picking on me anymore.’
Host Corgan supported Love’s statement, confirming that Dave has no problem with him.
Courtney Love, who was married to Kurt Cobain from February 1992 until his death in April 1994, responded to a statement by saying, ‘Tell that to his fans – it’s ridiculous.’
Love said on the podcast that Grohl has penned multiple songs about her.
Courtney Love admitted she’s never been able to write a successful song about Dave Grohl, despite him writing several hit songs about her. She expressed confusion and playfully wondered why he’s had success in that area while she hasn’t.
In 2009, Dave Grohl revealed that he wrote the 1995 Foo Fighters song ‘I’ll Stick Around’ with Courtney Love in mind.
Dave Grohl told The Guardian that the 2007 song ‘Let It Die’ wasn’t central to the album’s themes, explaining it’s about the feeling of powerlessness when someone you care about is struggling.
The famous musician shared that he’s witnessed many people struggle with devastating losses – from addiction and painful relationships to death. He’s seen this happen repeatedly throughout his life, but the case of Kurt Cobain is the one that stands out the most in his memory.
I’ve been angry with many people throughout my life, but Courtney stands out as the one who made me the most upset.
He added, ‘It’s pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again.’
Grohl and Love have had bad blood surface publicly in the past, dating back to the 90s.
In a 1999 interview with Spin magazine, Courtney Love insulted Dave Grohl, calling him a ‘stupid motherfer.’ She also claimed Kurt Cobain preferred playing with her and her band, Hole, ‘more than he did with’ Grohl and Krist Novoselic in Nirvana, stating he simply enjoyed playing with them more.
In 2002, they reached a settlement after a legal battle concerning who owned the rights to Nirvana’s music.
In 2014, Love told Pitchfork about her interactions with Dave Grohl at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where Nirvana was inducted.
Courtney Love explained that she ran into Dave Grohl on the way to the bathroom. She was annoyed because he approached her first, as she’d planned to initiate the conversation.
She told him she hoped they could put any past disagreements behind them and enjoy the celebration.
‘I was like, “All right, no matter what happens, we’re not going to be bitches,”‘ Love said.
We both felt the same way heading into the situation, and there isn’t much more to explain. We simply realized it was time to move on, and we were prepared to do so.
Grohl told Rolling Stone that he simply tapped the woman on the shoulder at the beginning of the night. When she turned around, he just said “Hey,” and she replied with “Hey.”
We hugged tightly. I asked how she was doing, and she said she was good, asking the same in return. I said I was okay, and she replied with enthusiastic encouragement, saying we should make the most of the evening.
Grohl said of Love, ‘We’re family, no matter what. And we all love each other, no matter what.’
