Court denies Tory Lanez’s request to submit new evidence in Megan Thee Stallion shooting case

Tory Lanez’s attempt to submit new evidence and challenge his 2022 felony conviction has collapsed.

In the case surrounding the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Daystar Peterson (also known as Lanez) made two appeals: one was regarding his driver’s refusal to testify and the other aimed to present a new statement from a security guard associated with Kelsey Harris, a former best friend of the victim. However, both appeals were rejected on Tuesday by the California Court of Appeals.

In 2020, Canadian rap artist Tory Lanez was officially declared responsible for firing a gun outside a mansion in the Hollywood Hills, injuring Megan Thee Stallion. Here’s a breakdown of key details from the ensuing court case.

At a press conference held in May, Peterson’s legal representatives claimed that Bradley Jennings, previously employed as both a bodyguard and driver for Harris, reportedly disclosed to them he had overheard a conversation where Harris stated “I possessed the firearm, I fired it three times; Mr. Peterson then grabbed my arm and knocked it down, resulting in the gun discharging two more times.

An attorney for Lanez added, “In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody.”

Megan Thee Stallion’s team was quick to respond, issuing a statement the next day.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can say that Tory Lanez’s trial and conviction were handled by a group of his peers within our justice system. The case proceeded appropriately through the courts, ensuring fairness and due process. This is not about politics; it’s about a violent assault incident that was judiciously resolved in a court of law.

Peterson is currently serving a 10-year prison term following his conviction on charges that include using a firearm in an assault, carrying a hidden firearm, and recklessly firing a gun. An active appeal case for him is scheduled for oral hearing on August 18th.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I must confess that it’s not the first time I’ve witnessed a rejection of my pleas in the court of law. In the month of May, 2023, a distinguished judge from the Los Angeles Superior Court turned down my request for a retrial.

In simpler terms, it was decided that rapper Tory Lanez would not receive another court hearing regarding the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, which took place in the Hollywood Hills back in 2020.

In simpler terms, during the trial in December 2022 that Judge David Herriford oversaw, his decision was not swayed by the defense team’s contention that evidence had been improperly presented. The rapper appealed emotionally, stating something along the lines of “I could be your son, I could be your brother,” but these appeals were not successful.

Three months later, in August 2023, he received his 10-year sentence.
