As someone who has gone through my own battles with health issues due to a mold-infested apartment, I can truly empathize with Katie Williams and Georgia Hull. Their story is a stark reminder of the importance of a safe living environment for our wellbeing. The fact that they had to endure this ordeal for 18 months while paying high rent is simply unacceptable.

Katie Williams and Georgia Hull have shared their struggles related to their health issues following the growth of black mold in their weekly rented apartment in Sydney, costing approximately $1,000.

Williams, who was previously a beach sprinter and contender on Big Brother, along with Hull, a renowned makeup artist, found themselves residing in a two-bedroom apartment in Sydney’s inner-east at Rose Bay approximately 18 months back. It was around this time that they both started experiencing health problems.

Williams shared with The Daily Telegraph that earlier on, she had been experiencing issues such as rashes on her eyelids, severe asthma attacks, a tight chest, waking up with persistent headaches resembling hangovers, and overall feeling unwell.

She explained that the mold, initially appearing as small spots on certain walls and window corners in the old flat, eventually expanded.

As time passed, it continued to deteriorate. It started spreading on our garments, covering our furnishings, and even the artwork, according to Williams.

Over time, our health deteriorated significantly, and currently, I’m using an inhaler with steroids and taking medications particularly designed for lung issues.

‘Black mould spores, if you disrupt them, you can breathe them in… it can poison you… I’ve had so many chest infections,’ Hull added.

For 18 months, the duo unsuccessfully attempted to persuade their landlord to address the problem, all the while shelling out a joint rent of $975 per week. However, after hitting a dead end, they chose to vacate the premises.

In their previous apartment, they believed the problem was due to restricted airflow and moisture because the windows were painted shut. Now, they’ve opted for a newer, more spacious apartment in Bondi, despite having to pay higher rent.

The pair mentioned that they needed to sort through all their possessions and discard numerous objects that were moldy, as they didn’t want the mold to move into their new home.

They’ve decided to share living expenses with another person to cope with the higher rent, but they wanted to remain in the Bondi district since their jobs are primarily located there.

The pair became engaged in February this year after dating since 2021.

Previously, Williams shared with Daily Mail Australia that during the lockdown, we experienced a range of personal highs and lows. Through it all, we supported one another. There were times when we laughed, cried, danced, and faced everything together.

She explained that Georgia was her very first serious relationship, having previously dated men. She emphasized that this connection is unique and emotionally intense in a way that no other relationship has been for her.

I’m extremely pleased with the way we’ve navigated our relationship. Despite being subjected to bullying and doubts about my sexual orientation following Big Brother, I remain unwavering in accepting myself and the person I love.

In April the couple said their wedding date was not yet decided.

In her Instagram posts, Hull expressed that she’s currently working on arranging our wedding (with no specific date set), reaching out to potential vendors for services, scouting locations, setting budgets, and organizing the logistics.

In the meantime, it was disclosed by Williams that a ‘not typically conventional’ wedding ceremony is scheduled to occur over two days within the upcoming year.

‘Two brides, two rings, and two special days – that’s the plan for a unique wedding within approximately a year, as suggested by the Big Brother star, who posted this engagement picture.’

The happily smitten pair sought advice and suggestions from both friends and followers regarding their special event, specifically the ceremony.

Williams expressed that she never imagined herself getting married to a woman just a few years back, but currently, she couldn’t be more content.

She doesn’t associate herself with specific labels; instead, she cherishes her individuality deeply. It’s a wonderful experience for her to be marrying him and sharing a future together, which she finds truly beautiful.
