Country star Thomas Rhett’s wife Lauren Akins candidly reveals moment in their marriage that left her bitterly resenting him: ‘I didn’t like him’

I have read Lauren Alaina’s heartfelt interview about her tumultuous journey as a mother and a wife, and I can’t help but feel deeply moved by her experiences. Her story is a testament to the challenges and triumphs that come with starting a family, especially when faced with unexpected twists and turns.

In her own words,Country music artist Thomas Rhett’s spouse, Lauren Akins, has shared the reasons behind her initial feelings of resentment towards him and her sensation of being overwhelmed as their family expanded.

In a YouTube video posted by I Am Second named “Lauren Akins – This Wasn’t The Plan,” Lauren, who is 34 years old, spoke openly about the challenges she and Thomas, also 34, encountered in their relationship during his worldwide tours.

At the pinnacle of her husband’s professional success, she acknowledged that the relationship between them had reached a critical stage. She further confessed that she grew to despise him for prioritizing his career over their family, leaving her alone to look after their kids.

In 2012, Lauren married the renowned musician known as the “Unforgettable” hitmaker. However, they encountered difficulties in their relationship when they adopted their eldest child, Willa Gray.

After the couple had initiated their adoption proceedings, Lauren discovered she was pregnant. Meanwhile, her husband was selling out arenas. This left Lauren in a challenging situation: carrying one child herself while trying to bring another one into the family on her own.

In the beginning of their married life, Thomas’ profession experienced significant growth, causing his wife to embark on tours with him.

However, she soon felt like she had given up on her dream of becoming a nurse. 

She shared that she discovered quite soon she wouldn’t be able to work as a nurse in a hospital, so she began discussing this with her husband.

I understand that you’ve been working towards something, perhaps a career goal or a dream project, but I must be frank with you. Based on my own experiences and observations, I had my doubts about its success. In fact, I once held the belief that nursing would be my life’s path, just like how it had been for many people around me. But as time passed, I came to realize that taking that route might not be the best fit for me or my unique set of skills and passions. So, while I respect your determination and commend your pursuit, I can’t help but share my perspective from the vantage point of someone who has walked a similar path but ultimately veered off in a different direction.

“However, that’s not what God intended it to be. I want to help you, but I also feel the need to chart my own course in this situation.”

Shortly after, she decided to go on a medical mission trip to Haiti, which is where she met Willa. 

Lauren remembered telling her partner that she strongly felt drawn to helping them find their long-term residence.

Thomas replied: ‘We’ll do it.’

In 2017, Lauren underwent a lengthy adoption process of thirteen months all by herself due to Thomas being on tour at the time. Later on, they both welcomed Willa into their family as her loving parents.

When Lauren learned that she was pregnant, the pressure only increased, as she found herself experiencing severe morning sickness with frequent bouts of vomiting daily.

She confessed: ‘I was getting sick and throwing up like 50-something times a day.

During his entire absence in America for touring, I deeply yearned for my husband’s presence and felt a slight annoyance towards him.

Lauren returned to the United States while her parents traveled to Haiti to bring Willa back with them. Approximately three months later, they had a new addition to their family when Lauren gave birth to their second child, named Ada.

She expressed that the transition into being parents with Thomas felt surprisingly fast, going from no experience to having two children under our care within a short timeframe. Afterward, she revealed that her family had made the decision to accompany Thomas on tour.

However, it seemed that being on the road only intensified their problems. 

Lauren confessed: “Our lives seemed to be moving in different directions, and I felt as if mine had come to a standstill.”

In the adoption process and afterward, there was a great deal of misunderstanding between us, resulting in deep-seated resentment that I harbored. Eventually, I reached my limit and couldn’t hide my dislike and bitterness towards him any longer.

The lovebirds recognized that their marriage was becoming frayed, so they chose to attend an “extensive counseling workshop,” where they openly discussed all aspects of their relationship and made the decision to “begin anew.”

In the year 2020, they happily welcomed the arrival of their third daughter, whom they named Lennon Love. And, their fourth child, a precious girl named Lillie Carolina, joined their family in the year 2021.

After having Lillie, Lauren admitted she experienced profound postpartum depression.

She confessed that she had felt overwhelmed, almost as if she were sinking, and spent prolonged periods in bed during which Thomas looked after our kids.

Lauren shared that her health had significantly improved after regularly working out at the gym and practicing prayer – expressing deep gratitude for her four cherished kids.

In my experience as a lifestyle expert, I understand that life for some people is far from ordinary. My top priority is to help them establish routines and find stability, eliminating any feelings of entitlement or longing for something more.

I, as a devoted admirer of the songwriter’s craft, can relate when he shares that he and his spouse have followed in the footsteps of our own parents in raising our girls.

I’m so fortunate to have had parents who embodied the ideal balance of loving and firm figures. They showed me what it truly means to be a great mom and dad, yet they weren’t pushovers. Raising a child can be quite the challenge, and it’s all too easy to give in to their demands. But my parents stood their ground, setting an unforgettable example for me.
