Zach Bryan has entered the political foray.
A 29-year-old country singer, who previously served in the U.S. Navy, shared a snippet of his song ‘Bad News’ on Instagram Friday. He captioned the post with the phrase, ‘The fading of the red, white, and blue.’
In this song, the artist directly criticizes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its actions while Donald Trump was president.
The Grammy-winning singer wrote lyrics that described the fear of ICE raids, including lines like: ‘And ICE is gonna come, bust down your door /Try to build a house no one builds no more /But I got a telephone /Kids are all scared and all alone.’
The song goes on to say, ‘People are defiantly raising their middle fingers, and that won’t stop anytime soon. There’s some bad news: the symbols of our nation are losing their strength and vibrancy.’
This position is unusual for Bryan, as he generally avoids being political in his work or on social media.

Singer Noah Kahan sparked controversy after publicly expressing support for Donald Trump following an assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania in July 2024.
Bryan reacted to the incident on social media, saying he didn’t support either Trump or Biden, but was disturbed by the fact that the person was shot and then appeared to celebrate. He called it ‘sick’.
Bryan was photographed with the 45th and 47th U.S. presidents at this year’s Super Bowl.
Adding to the difficulties, Bryan is a big fan of Bruce Springsteen, and Springsteen is well-known for his openly liberal political views.
In a new song, Bryan references Bruce Springsteen with the lines, ‘The Boss stopped playing, the music died down / People were still giving the middle finger, and it just kept going / I received some unfortunate news / The spirit of American pride is disappearing.’
During a July concert in New Jersey, the musician from Oologah, Oklahoma, praised Bruce Springsteen, calling him ‘one of the greatest men ever.’
Bruce Springsteen, the subject of the new film *Deliver Me From Nowhere*, collaborated on Bryan’s 2024 album, *The Great American Bar Scene*.
Bryan strongly criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a time when protests and unrest were happening in cities like Portland, Oregon. Notably, a judge had recently prevented the president from sending in the National Guard to Portland on Saturday.

In a written decision, U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, appointed by President Trump, stated that the country has a long history of opposing government overreach, particularly when the military gets involved in civilian matters.
The judge explained that, at its core, this long-standing practice means we are governed by the Constitution, not by military rule. They also noted that the protests were generally minor and didn’t cause significant disruption, and that the President’s decision wasn’t supported by the available evidence.
The ICE discussion has also crossed over into the music industry Bryan makes his living in.
On October 1st, Corey Lewandowski, an advisor to Donald Trump, revealed on The Benny Show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be at the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California on February 8th. This is notable because the halftime show is scheduled to be headlined by Bad Bunny, who has publicly criticized ICE.
Lewandowski stated that it’s impossible to offer safe harbor to individuals living in the country without legal permission.
