Could Star Trek: Strange New Worlds be heading toward a streaming movie?
As a die-hard Trekkie with decades of Star Trek fandom under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest addition to the franchise, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is nothing short of a marvel. The series’ success and the anticipation for its upcoming third season have me on the edge of my seat!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has proven itself as a hit among Trek series, backed by impressive streaming figures. As it ventures into its fourth season, anticipation is growing among fans for the upcoming third season release. With excitement mounting, there’s talk about the possibility of Strange New Worlds getting a movie like Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation did. It’s not far-fetched to imagine this might happen in the future.
At Terrificon [via Screenrant], Ethan Peck (the actor portraying Spock on Strange New Worlds) and Celia Rose Gooding (playing Uhura) attended a panel together, where they were asked about the possibility of a movie. Peck mentioned that there had been talks about it, but nothing concrete has been decided yet. If discussions have started prior to the third season premiere of the series, it’s promising.
Will the film premiere at any point during the show’s seasons or afterwards when the series ends, which producers are hoping will be much later? Unlike previous Star Trek series, no movie has been filmed during its ongoing production. Instead, movies were produced only after the finales of The Original Series and The Next Generation.
Section 31 started filming before Star Trek: Discovery concluded, yet it doesn’t revolve around the characters being filmed at that time and is more of a spin-off rather than an all-encompassing sequel to Discovery. However, this doesn’t preclude the possibility of a movie fitting seamlessly within Strange New Worlds’ seasons. Gooding and Peck have brainstormed some intriguing ideas for such a film, one of which involves a crossover with the Kelvin Timeline.
Celia Rose Gooding: We’d have a lot of fun. I think there’s a world in which – I don’t know, I’ve had like fever dreams of us in the Kelvin universe finding a way to cross over.
Ethan Peck: That’d be awesome.
Celia Rose Gooding: (laughs) It’d be very weird to see them talking to Uhura, and then us being like, ‘Hmm, different. Very different.’
Ethan Peck: Well, Quinto’s Spock got to meet Leonard’s Spock, so…
Celia Rose Gooding: I’d love to meet another Uhura.
Ethan Peck: That’d be awesome.
Celia Rose Gooding: That’d be super cool.
Ethan Peck: Yeah, so maybe.
Celia Rose Gooding: Maybe!
Ethan Peck: Also, I think it’d be cool if we did like a Christmas movie.
Celia Rose Gooding: I would love that! I would love that! That’d be so fun.
If you find it odd to imagine a blend of Strange New Worlds and a Chris Pine-led Star Trek film, remember that even an animated series like Star Trek: Lower Decks had a crossover with Strange New Worlds. So, when it comes to this series, anything is possible!
