Could Laurie Strode return someday? Jamie Lee Curtis says 'never say never'

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast with a memory that stretches back to the golden era of slasher films, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia tinged with anticipation when it comes to Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. The finale of Halloween Ends, while seeming like a fitting conclusion, leaves me with an uneasy suspicion that the Shape may return once more from the shadows.

In the controversial 2022 movie “Halloween Ends,” Michael Myers once again struck terror, this time targeting Jamie Lee Curtis as the legendary character Laurie Strode, marking the end of a trilogy that began with the reboot in 2018 under director David Gordon Green.

It appears that Halloween Ends conclusively concludes the sagas of both Laurie and Michael Myers. In the film, their bodies are disposed of in an industrial shredder by Laurie and the townspeople of Haddonfield. A gruesome scene shows his internal organs being torn apart within it. This confirms that he is indeed dead – for now. As for Laurie, she can be seen writing her memoir and reconnecting with her love interest, Deputy Frank Hawkins.

Even if we find ourselves in a universe where Jason Voorhees could venture into space, it’s hard to believe that the return of Michael Myers is an impossibility at some point or another. It seems Curtis shares this perspective too.

In her recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, she openly stated that she had bid farewell to her character using a heartfelt “aloha” and expressing gratitude for the years and memories shared, when asked if she was truly wrapping up her involvement in the extended slasher series initiated by John Carpenter in 1978. The finale of Halloween, titled ‘Halloween Ends’, seemed to mark a definitive goodbye for all characters involved.

Nevertheless, Curtis is wise enough in this field to realize that one can rarely be certain. During her conversation with EW, she even admitted, “If I’ve discovered anything during my 65 years on Earth, it’s never to rule out the impossible.” True to form, Curtis ended the call without elaborating further on her thoughts.

Indeed, she’s correct! The 2018 Halloween was quite unexpected, given that everyone thought Laurie’s character had died in Halloween: Resurrection. However, the 2018 trilogy essentially rewrote the franchise’s history, establishing itself as a direct sequel to the original 1978 film.

So, who knows? Maybe in another 10 years Hollywood will revive Michael yet again.
