Corrie star Tina O’Brien, 42, praises daughter Scarlett Thomas, 16, as she shows off incredible singing voice after skipping her GCSEs to pursue music

Tina O’Brien is incredibly proud of her daughter, Scarlett Thomas, who chose to focus on her singing career instead of completing her GCSEs. O’Brien has publicly praised Scarlett’s exceptional vocal talent.

Coronation Street actress, 42, posted a video on Instagram on Friday of her 16-year-old daughter, Scarlett, singing Tate McRae’s song, ‘Tit For Tat’.

Tina shared how incredibly proud she is of Scarlett, saying Scarlett’s voice is breathtaking and deeply moving.

It’s incredible to see so much talent and emotion in such a young person. Seeing her develop her unique voice and style is truly special.

Scarlett frequently posts singing videos on TikTok and has said she hopes to pursue a career in entertainment, like her family members.

Some reports suggest that Scarlett’s potential future income could offset the fact that she left school to become an actress, implying her career success makes her lack of GCSEs unimportant.

The young actress first gained recognition in 2023 when she appeared in the BBC drama Waterloo Road, playing the character Izzy, who happened to be the on-screen daughter of her actual uncle, Adam Thomas.

She comes from a well-known family – her father is actor Ryan, known for his role in ‘Corrie,’ and her mother is Tina, who also starred in the show. Plus, her uncle is reality TV star Scott Thomas from ‘Love Island’.

Even though her acting career is taking off, her father, Ryan, has repeatedly stated that she isn’t receiving any special treatment or unearned advantages.

She’s quickly becoming famous both on television and online, and experts estimate she’ll earn up to £2 million before she turns eighteen.

I’m always so impressed when I see young people really get social media! I’ve been following this teen creator, and her TikToks are blowing up – one recently hit almost three million views! She’s built a huge following – over 204,000 on TikTok and another 142,000 on Instagram. What’s even more amazing is she started both accounts just last October when she turned sixteen – a real social media pro!

She’s frequently featured on her parents’ social media channels, and the whole Thomas family even has their own account.

This includes her famous uncles as well as Ryan’s former TOWIE star fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh.

PR professional Lynn Carratt observed that the family is very close and knows how to use social media to advance their careers. They skillfully leverage popular TikTok trends, and each individual has unique talents.

She explained that the family’s TikTok videos are a great way to showcase their talents to a large number of people, which is fantastic for publicity.

She continued, explaining that Teddy is very talented and it looks like his children will also pursue creative careers, just like their father and uncles. Scarlett frequently appears in videos with her dad and uncles, showing off her singing and acting abilities. Growing up with parents in television, Scarlett has clearly inherited their talent. She seems like a confident, friendly girl with strong family ties.

Lynn noted that the Thomas family’s videos are successfully using each family member’s unique personality and skills to attract a large audience of millions every day.

This method is getting them more notice than appearing on regular television, and it’s leading to lots of new work for everyone in the family.

I think Scarlett and her cousin Teddy have bright futures in entertainment. As Scarlett gets older, I could definitely see her becoming part of a girl group.

In an interview with The Sun, Ryan previously explained that his daughter’s career beginnings were fair and she hadn’t received any special treatment.

He said: ‘Everyone thinks she gets a lift up from family, getting on Waterloo Road.

She earned that job through a lot of hard work, and people should acknowledge her talent. She’s competing with others and succeeding on her own merits, not through any special favors.

Okay, so everyone’s making it sound like she was automatically chosen, like it was a done deal! But honestly, it wasn’t like that at all. She still had to compete! There was another candidate, and she really had to prove she deserved it. It wasn’t just handed to her because… well, because it’s her. She went through the same process as everyone else, and she earned it, I’m so proud!

Scarlett recently revealed she did not sit her GCSEs.

She’s determined to pursue a career in entertainment, just like her well-known parents, and is passionate about both acting and singing.

As a long-time follower of the education system here, I’ve always known that while nearly everyone takes GCSEs, they’re actually not the law. The Education Act of 1996 doesn’t require them. Young people have options – they can study for different qualifications if they prefer, or even leave school at 16 if that’s what they decide. It’s good to know there’s flexibility!

Not having GCSEs can restrict your choices when it comes to continuing your education, like going to college or university.

Many jobs now require applicants to have a grade 4 or C in English and Maths, or higher.
