Corrie Star Quits

Coronation Street star Joe Layton is leaving his role on the hit ITV soap.

The character actor playing Mick Michaelis on the soap opera only recently joined the cast along with his on-screen partner, Lou, but he is set to leave the show in the near future.

From the beginning, it was intended that Joe would only stay temporarily after he signed on for a limited-term contract tied to a specific plotline. There were no surprise departures planned for him.

According to a reliable source who is privy to the show’s inner workings, Mick’s character will continue to appear on the screen until around late July. This insider hinted that there are many exciting developments still in store for Mick’s storyline.

On the Cobbles, Corrie‘s characters Mick and his wife Lou have generated a lot of buzz due to their rapid friendship formation with Chesney and Gemma upon their arrival.

After landing the role, Joe explained that it was a dream come true to join the ITV show.

He expressed that Coronation Street is almost like a tradition on British TV, and it’s thrilling for him to imagine walking down the cobblestones, in Mick’s footsteps.

It’s fantastic to work on it with Farrell too! We’re having a blast collaborating and our characters seem to be coming alive effortlessly, making the whole process incredibly enjoyable.

Working here provides a unique chance to peer into the inner workings of the vast Coronation Street production, becoming a tiny yet essential piece in the grand scheme. It also means collaborating with individuals who are deeply passionate about their roles and devoted to their craft.

‘It’s just a really happy place, friendly and welcoming. I’m going to relish every moment of it.’

Earlier, while talking about his villainous part, Joe shared that he was really looking forward to playing a ‘fascinating’ role instead.

He mentioned: “I truly find pleasure in portraying characters often labeled as antagonists or villains, since I find the exploration of overcoming the initial negative impression of them, particularly when acting, to be the most intriguing aspect.

Playing a character requires you to feel affection for them, identify with their emotions, and comprehend their motivations. This is what makes the performance engaging and believable.

Whenever I delve into a character, I constantly ponder ‘How might I step into these shoes, understand his personality quirks, and grasp why he behaves as he does?’ This process is consistently enriching and feels like an extraordinary opportunity for me, particularly when it comes to intricate psychological characters.

Working alongside Sam and Dolly-Rose has been fantastic, just as I mentioned earlier. Everyone at Corrie is incredibly warm and inviting, and the Winter-Browns truly embody an iconic family!

Following his initial appearance, it became clear to ITV audiences that Mick had been bothering the beloved character Chesney with unwanted attention.

Joe expressed his belief that the crowd would be taken aback to learn that Mick was the one harassing Chesney all along, as this information has been gradually disclosed. From my observations, it seems everyone was in the dark about the situation involving the man and his silver van.

‘It’s been great to have that kind of depth to play with and it’s been fun.’
