Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald on Coronation Street, is facing more money problems with a new expensive issue.
Simon Gregson, the 51-year-old actor famous for his role as Steve McDonald in the popular ITV soap opera, recently shared that he’s currently paying back a £250,000 loan he received from his production company.
Simon revealed on Instagram over the weekend that he was dealing with a surprisingly high bill.
The actor, known for his role in a soap opera, was shocked by the extremely high insurance prices he was quoted for his son’s 2010 Volkswagen Polo.
One quote came in at a staggering £7,000 a year, and another one at £4,000.
Sharing his frustration with his followers, Simon said: ‘Moaning from sunny Cheshire.
Even though they’re offering four thousand dollars, it’s still way too much for the car’s actual value. It doesn’t make sense for the insurance payout to be higher than what the car is worth.
‘I’m not great at Maths, but even I know that does not compute. What is that all about?
‘This country, and car insurance, among other financial things, has gone crazy!’
Following reports in the Daily Mail, Simon may be forced to sell his house due to money problems.
The Sun reports that the actor has paid off £18,000 of his debts in the last year. However, the liquidator has stated that the remaining balance will need to be paid using the proceeds from selling his property within the next three years.
Simon Gregson Productions Ltd. reported that liquidating the company cost £51,000, even though there was a spending limit of £44,000.
Begbies Taynor, the company handling the liquidation, reported receiving £18,000 this year towards a loan owed by the company’s directors. This payment aligns with the agreed-upon terms of a settlement.
Because the directors’ loan hasn’t been fully repaid, we couldn’t finish handling this case. As a result, work on it will continue next period.
Daily Mail contacted Simon’s representatives for comment.
The actor recently addressed rumors about a divorce from his wife, Emma Gleave, which surfaced while he was dealing with money problems. He explained the confusion was due to a mistake on a legal document, and confirmed they are still together.
People initially thought Simon and Emma had separated when court papers about financial repayments called Emma his ‘estranged wife’.
The couple claims they don’t understand why the report identifies Emma as Simon’s estranged wife.
According to a source who spoke with The Mirror, Simon and Emma are still a couple and haven’t separated. Simon was surprised to see financial documents listing Emma as his ‘estranged wife’ and doesn’t understand why that information is there.
The actor first joined Coronation Street in December 1989 at the age of 15, quickly becoming famous as Steve McDonald, the mischievous teenager that millions of viewers loved to watch.
Simon has previously shared that becoming famous from his role on the soap opera negatively impacted his mental well-being.
He told the YouTube channel DEEP that being on the show at that point in his life was really difficult. He admitted that the idea of his own children experiencing the same things he did deeply bothers him.
Oh my gosh, hearing him talk about it still gives me chills! He was just saying how him and Nicholas Cochrane – Andy, his on-screen brother – became HUGE practically overnight. He said it was so weird and hard to even process as a young guy, but there was absolutely no guidance or support for them back then! Can you imagine?! It’s just… heartbreaking and amazing all at once!
Simon explained that when actors join the soap opera today, they receive a thorough briefing on what to expect. This includes understanding the potential for media attention, how fans might react, the effect on their personal lives, and the possibility of facing criticism for their character or performance.
You know, growing up, I didn’t have much of a safety net. It really felt like we were just suddenly thrown into adulthood around fifteen, expected to figure things out completely on our own. It was a bit like being dropped in the middle of the ocean and told to swim for it – a really challenging and isolating experience.
