Actress Sue Cleaver from Coronation Street gave fans a peek into what she typically keeps in her refrigerator, following her noteworthy weight loss of three stones.
The popular television actor, aged 61, has recently been noticed with a noticeably leaner build. This transformation is attributed to a serious illness he experienced last year and his decision to abstain from alcohol.
In a chat with Closer Magazine, Sue discussed some nutritious items she’s incorporated into her pantry following her weight loss journey.
The soap star described her visit to the supermarket as a form of peaceful reflection, explaining that she carefully manages her blood sugar levels due to being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes over two decades back.
Instead of consuming large amounts of fruit because of its sweetness, she prefers to store pineapple juice in the refrigerator as a way to increase her sugar intake following a workout session.
As an over-the-top fanatic about my morning routine, I kickstart each day by indulging in the divine taste of Jason’s Protein Sourdough topped with a perfectly cooked egg – yum! For a burst of flavor, I sometimes swap out the egg for a dollop of creamy hummus instead. To further fuel my body, I down a kefir shot and follow it up with a scoop of Ancient and Brave collagen – simply perfection!

For lunch today, it could be either canned sardines or a mix of boiled eggs mashed with avocado, jalapeños, and served on crackers.
For dinner, I frequently prepare stir-fries, ramen noodles, and pilafs. At home, I don’t keep any desserts like puddings, but when I’m out, I’d opt for a chocolate eclair.
Sue mentioned that she now uses the Dexcom, a device for monitoring blood sugar, and emphasized its importance for diabetics. She went on to suggest that sweet potatoes could be a beneficial choice for those with diabetes when it comes to their diet.
The actress, who departed from the soap opera in May, had earlier admitted that there were instances while shooting where she experienced feelings of dizziness or light-headedness.
When she’s preparing for a stage performance or live shows, if her blood sugar levels aren’t stable, and she doesn’t have time to test them, she might find herself grabbing something to eat on the spot. However, the effects of this quick snack often occur later during or even in the middle of the show.
Previously, Sue emphatically stated that her body does not dictate who she is, as she shared the remarkable story of her losing three stones in weight.
The star openly acknowledged that, even with her new focus on a healthier lifestyle and frequent exercise, she is still working on overcoming self-critical thoughts regarding her appearance.
Previously, she shared with Bella: “Nowadays, my physical self embodies me. My physique may fluctuate, becoming larger or smaller at times, but I steer clear of conversations about it; it doesn’t shape who I am.

The focus should be on making internal changes rather than external ones. I’m altering my lifestyle, adopting new habits, even embracing things I once found unappealing, and undergoing personal transformation.
Sue went on to explain: “It’s a challenge when you linger on harmful thoughts. The key is to not give them too much weight.
In March 2024, Sue shared about her successful weight loss journey that she embarked on during Dry January of the previous year, where she chose to abstain from alcohol for the entire month.
She stated: “I shed 18 pounds during ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’ in 2022. I had already dropped about 10.5 pounds that year, due to giving up alcohol. I continued the Dry January pledge and chose to keep going afterward.”
At my current age, it hadn’t crossed my mind before that those extra glasses of red wine I had while preparing and enjoying dinner could amount to a significant number of calories.
‘If you’re doing that four or five nights a week, that’s a lot of calories.’

Previously, Sue shared that as she entered her sixties, she now views life as an opportunity for exploration, much like an oyster shell, having overcome several years of alcohol addiction.
To Prima: “I talk to a lot of individuals your age, and they seem troubled by turning sixty as they view it as a point where life starts declining. However, I personally don’t share this perspective.
It seems as though I have an overwhelming sense of opportunity before me, with countless possibilities awaiting discovery. There’s a wealth of experiences and adventures ready to be had.
During the open conversation, she shared that her dependence on alcohol has decreased with age. She put it this way: “Nowadays, I no longer feel apprehensive about alcohol, which feels incredibly liberating.
It completely caught me off guard reaching this point. I assumed I was dependent on it, believing there was no way I could wind down without enjoying an evening glass of wine.
It seemed to me that life wouldn’t be as enjoyable without a glass of wine. However, it could actually be quite wonderful without wine – it was merely my assumption that it wouldn’t be. The issue lies in my way of thinking about it.
