This weekend, Maureen Lipman plans to marry her partner, David Turner. Last year, she surprised him by proposing during a train ride.

Or, in an unexpected moment on a train trip last year, Maureen Lipman popped the question to David Turner, and this weekend they will be getting married.

Last September, the prominent actor from Coronation Street, now 79 years old, disclosed that it was she who proposed to her 79-year-old boyfriend, a business consultant, instead.

As a devoted companion of Maureen, I am thrilled to share that my frequent Gogglebox co-star, Gyles Brandreth, has disclosed that our special wedding event is taking place this very weekend!

In the most recent episode of his podcast, Rosebud, Gyles disclosed that he will be attending Dame Maureen Lipman’s wedding this coming Sunday as she is set to get married.

She’s getting married this afternoon, not in the morning as you might think. Regardless, I’ll be attending. Isn’t that wonderful?

‘To get married in your 80th year is fantastic.’

Last year, Maureen, known for portraying Evelyn Plummer in the ITV soap, announced her engagement in an article she wrote. In the piece, she humorously shared that she and her partner David, who together have a total age of 156 years, decided to inform their children that they are planning to get married later on.

Initially, I’d been quite hesitant about using the term “marriage,” but during our journey back from Edinburgh, he casually brought up the topic. It turned out that it was the lesser-known Jewish festival of Tu B’Av – a day when traditionally a woman would propose to a man.

In a moment of irrepressible mirth, I found myself slipping from my seat towards the table that divided us, ending up on one knee beside him. To my astonishment and a flicker of apprehension, he offered me his hand.

For thirty years, the actress was married to renowned TV scriptwriter Jack Rosenthal until his passing in 2004. During their marriage, they were blessed with a daughter named Amy, who is now 50, and a son Adam, aged 48. Additionally, David has three children from a past relationship.

She mentioned that the responses from the kids varied, but they were all heartfelt and unique.

One youngster mentioned he required some moments to ‘understand and digest’ the information. While arranging leaves on a fresh dining table, we shared the news with another child, creating a scene reminiscent of a Jack Rosenthal play – perhaps one that concluded positively in the end.

In the autumn of 2023, Maureen introduced David as her companion, whom she planned to bring to the National Television Awards, where she referred to him as her “gentleman friend.

Discussing finding love again at 77, the star was overjoyed to be sharing life with a partner. 

She expressed that it’s a present for everyone involved, adding that he has been particularly kind. Throughout her life, she’s encountered many kind and intriguing gentlemen, and the future remains to be seen.

They made their public appearance debut at the Oldie Of The Year Awards that November.

At the event, Maureen proudly said of David: ‘That’s my significant other.’

For 13 years prior to his passing in 2021, Maureen was romantically involved with Guido Castro, a successful Italian entrepreneur, following the demise of her previous spouse.

Regarding the passing of her partner, Maureen clarified: ‘He contracted COVID-19 – while not COVID-19 itself that caused his death, it significantly weakened him.’

‘We don’t know how he got it or when or if he had it when he got the vaccine.’

Maureen sadly stated, “‘Enough, Guido, it’s time to move on and release your grip.’ I believe, for perhaps the first time, he followed my instructions.
