Helen Flanagan, known for her role on Coronation Street, has spoken out against the show, claiming it inappropriately sexualized her when she was just 16 years old, forcing her to appear in revealing outfits.
As a lifestyle observer, I’ve been following Helen Flanagan’s career for years! Many of you probably recognize her as Rosie Webster from Coronation Street. She first joined the show way back in 2000, and it’s been wonderful watching her grow as an actress.
She starred on the soap until 2012, then reprised her role in 2017 when she returned for a year.
When Helen was 16, her character Rosie, then 15, was manipulated by her teacher, John Stape (Graeme Hawley). Their inappropriate relationship was revealed, leading to Stape losing his job and then kidnapping Rosie, holding her hostage. It was later discovered that Stape was a serial killer.
Helen has recently revealed she was required to film scenes with a significantly older man that she now describes as sexually suggestive, and that this occurred when she was very young.
She told The Mirror she questioned whether it was right for her to have been asked to perform in revealing clothing as a young teenager, feeling it was overly sexualized.
Alison King, the actress who plays Carla Connor, was reportedly very upset and voiced her outrage after finding out someone was sexualizing me when I was a young girl.
I didn’t understand what she meant then, but I do now. I was required to film intimate scenes, including kissing and bedroom scenes, with a much older actor.
The Daily Mail has contacted ITV for comment.
Even though she recently stated otherwise, Helen has expressed her willingness to rejoin the cast of Coronation Street, seven years after leaving the show.
Helen, who lives near the Salford, Manchester set, explained that the job would be convenient because she shares parenting responsibilities for her three children with her former partner, Scott Sinclair.
She mentioned in an interview that she’s eager to return to Coronation Street, but no one has contacted her about it, even though she lives nearby.
‘I’d love to, if they asked me. I’d come back, but they obviously haven’t,’ she told The Sun.
Earlier this year, Helen suggested she’d be coming back to the ITV soap opera, and has also given a sneak peek at what her first story might be about.
Coronation Street fans are eager to find out if the actress will reprise her role, and she recently told The Mirror she’d be thrilled to return to the show.
What really struck me was how much being located in Bolton meant to her. It would allow her to juggle work with being a mom to her three wonderful kids – Matilda, who’s nine, Delilah, six, and little Charlie, who’s three. It’s clear family is a huge priority for her, and it’s fantastic she’s found a way to make it all work.
The actress has also developed a potential storyline for Rosie, in case she decides to return to acting.
Helen described a storyline involving a single mother with two children who temporarily leaves them with Sally so she can return to the Rovers Return and reprise a famous barmaid role.
Helen’s comments come after she lifted the lid on her ‘throuple’ with David Haye.
She’s been making news because her new book reveals she’s in a relationship with three people, including a 45-year-old former heavyweight boxer.
Helen had a short-lived relationship with David after ending her engagement with Scott Sinclair, who is the father of her three children: Matilda, age 10, Delilah, 7, and Charlie, 4.
They originally met on the reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ back in 2012, but didn’t become close until ten years later.
Helen and David reconnected in the fall of 2022 when they ran into each other at an awards show. David then contacted her after seeing some photos she’d taken for Ann Summers lingerie.
Helen recently shared details about her relationship with David, where they are in a relationship with another person, following a public criticism of footballer Scott for missing their son’s Christmas play. This came despite Helen herself being separated from her three children during the holidays.
Recent reports suggest that Helen asked David to end his relationship with Sian Osborne so they could be together, during a difficult time in their own relationship.
According to a source, Helen wished David would end his relationship with Sian and be with her. She was deeply infatuated with David and really wanted to be the only woman in his life.
David truly loves Sian, and he would never have chosen Helen over her. It wasn’t even a possibility.
Daily Mail contacted Helen and David’s representatives for comment at the time.
