Coronation Street CHANGES its iconic theme tune following the death of a long-time character

As I reflect upon the impending farewell of Helen Worth from the hallowed cobbles of Coronation Street, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration and respect for this remarkable woman. Gail Platt, her indomitable character, has weathered the storms of life that would have left lesser souls shipwrecked on the shores of despair.

In her life, Gail Platt has faced numerous hardships such as surviving family misfortune, wrongful incarceration, and marrying five different men, one of whom turned out to be a notorious murderer.

This week, the renowned actress Helen Worth will shoot her last scenes on Coronation Street, marking an end to her 50-year journey as a cherished character. In simpler terms, she’s saying goodbye to the Coronation Street set after a long and remarkable career spanning five decades.

In a statement made in June, the 73-year-old actress expressed her decision to depart from the show: ‘It seemed fitting this year to conclude my journey on this remarkable series, which I’ve been honored to work on for half a century, on the most enchanting set in the universe.’

At the beginning of this year, I chose to take a new path and shared my intentions with the production team, who were incredibly gracious and accommodating. It’s still somewhat difficult for me to fully grasp that I’m moving on from here.

In the last season of her series, Gail discovers love anew, this time with a gentleman eighteen years his junior, following an unexpected comeback by Jesse Chadwick, portrayed by John Thomson, who is fifty-five years old.

In 2010, following a two-year stint on the show, Thomson departed, only to rejoin later and develop a relationship with his co-star, Ms. Worth’s character.

Gail, who debuted on the ITV soap opera back in 1974, currently holds the title for the most married female character in its history.

Among her on-screen spouses are Brian Tilsley, portrayed by Christopher Quinten, and Martin Platt, who is played by Sean Wilson.

Over 19 million people tuned in to watch her third husband, the notorious serial killer Richard Hillman portrayed by Brian Capron, seemingly drown her during one of the series’ most intense episodes.

She was wrongfully jailed following the drowning of her fourth spouse, Joe McIntyre (played by Reece Dinsdale). Her most recent marriage took place with Michael Rodwell (portrayed by Les Dennis) in 2015.

Ms. Worth’s departure isn’t the sole transformation happening on the cobblestones; last night, the soap opera switched its famous theme tune to the rhythm of a fluttering heartbeat, symbolizing Gail Platt’s heart attack.

Last week on Coronation Street, the character Gail was transported to the hospital following a heart attack. In collaboration with the British Heart Foundation, the show aimed to increase public knowledge about heart disease.
