Everyone in Hollywood seemed thrilled when Jessie Buckley won Best Actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles last week.
One familiar face at a prominent table might have surprised British viewers: Katy Cavanagh, who is an actress on Coronation Street.
Most soap opera viewers remember her as the cheerful Julie Carp, a character she played for seven years and recently revisited. Now, she’s found a new career as a ‘momager’ – someone who acts as both a motherly figure and a manager – and she’s doing very well in her new role.
Both of her sons, 20-year-old Noah and 12-year-old Jacobi Jupe, are gaining attention in Hollywood for their performances in the critically acclaimed film, Hamnet, alongside their mother.
In this emotional film, Jacobi portrays Shakespeare’s son, Hamnet, who tragically died at the young age of eleven. Noah plays an actor within the story, performing the role of Hamlet in a play believed to be written in response to that earlier loss.
Fifty-two-year-old Ms. Cavanagh joined Jacobi at the Critics’ Choice celebration, and both are anticipated to attend the Golden Globes. The film, along with stars Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, has received several nominations.
The brothers are finding success thanks to the dedication of their mother, who previously appeared in a soap opera. A source shared that she’s completely devoted herself to giving her sons a strong beginning in their careers.
She’s prioritized supporting their ambitions over her own career. While she doesn’t have connections in Hollywood herself, she’s successfully helped them get their foot in the door and continues to offer ongoing support.
Noah has appeared in 26 movies and TV shows, including the Quiet Place films, and has worked with stars like Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, and Hugh Grant. However, it was actually his younger brother who was originally chosen to play a role in director Chloe Zhao’s film, Hamnet.

He credits his parents and producer Chris Jupe with supporting his career, explaining that without their encouragement, he might have made different job choices and wouldn’t be as mentally strong as he is today.
When they started filming without having found their Hamlet, Ms Cavanagh suggested Noah.
Noah recalled getting a call from his mother and Chloe about two months into filming. They were incredibly excited and asked him if he’d be interested in playing Hamlet. He said it was an opportunity he couldn’t refuse.
Jacobi concurs: ‘Honestly, I don’t know how I would be here if it weren’t for them,’ he has said.
Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about the Jupes right now – the critics are absolutely loving them. But honestly, I was really surprised to see Sydney Sweeney left out of the nominations. She’s a total star, and I definitely expected her name to be in the mix!
But it didn’t stop her putting her famous cleavage on show at a pre-Golden Globes party on Friday.
