Controversial Aussie ad sparks fierce debate after being banned by Netflix: ‘I nearly threw up’

After receiving criticism, Netflix has taken down a Lyka dog food ad from its platform.

The advertisement, called “The Brutal Pick-Up: A Dog Poo Horror Story,” shows a woman walking her dog when she unexpectedly has to deal with the mess of her pet having an accident.

The woman was filmed struggling to clean up a large mess while on her hands and knees. A jogger passed by as she noticed a noticeable stain on her arm, causing her to scream.

The ad ends with the tagline: ‘Real food makes your dog’s poo less horrific’.

The horror comedy’s disturbing and graphic content upset many viewers of the streaming service, leading to calls for its removal.

‘Wtf is this ad? I nearly threw up my lunch when I saw it on TV, can we not?’ posted one viewer.

‘I think this ad should be banned,’ complained another armchair critic.

‘The [poo] was too disgusting and the owner’s scream was too horrific … it made me uncomfortable.’

‘This is one of the most disgusting advertisements I have ever seen on television,’ wrote another.

‘We change the channel as soon as it begins’

Many people enjoyed the ad’s humor and shared their positive reactions on Lyka’s Instagram page.

‘This is the greatest ad of all time, ever,’ wrote one fan.

‘Hands down the best advertisement I’ve ever seen,’ another agreed.

Lyka’s creative director, Analise Burwood, explained that the controversial ad was intentionally made to be attention-grabbing and different.

‘As a challenger brand, we can’t afford to be quiet,’ she told News Corp.

To change what dogs usually eat, we needed a really innovative approach. The key to a dog’s health? Their poop,” she explained.

Bad poos are a warning that a dog’s health could be at risk, vet Dr Alexander England told News.

According to veterinarian Dr. Alexander England, a dog’s poop can tell you a lot about its health, but many Australian pet owners aren’t paying attention to what it looks like.

A healthy bowel movement should be shaped like a log – solid but not hard, a light to medium brown color, easy to pass, and not particularly smelly.
