Conor McGregor plug, MMA fighter sentenced for murder, & Matt Brown blames fighters for fighter pay
As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of MMA, I can say with certainty that the news coming out of the combat sports scene is as unpredictable as a heavyweight title fight.
Each day, I will delve into the latest news from the realm of combat sports and share my insights on these stories with you. Make sure to drop by each morning to catch the top or most intriguing headlines, along with my analysis of them.
MMA fighter sentenced for murder
MMA combatant Andrew Osborne, who has fought 28 times, was given a 25-year prison sentence for taking the life of a man. The court found Osborne guilty of fatally stabbing Brian Wilkinson, aged 47, in a hotel room in New Jersey on May 30th. As reported by NJ.com, Osborne inflicted wounds on Wilkinson’s head and neck before departing the room with the victim’s shoes and trousers.
From 2011 to 2017, I had the honor to represent various fight promotions such as CES MMA, Ring of Combat, World Series of Fighting, and more. However, it’s heartbreaking to learn about the unfortunate incident involving Wilkinson, a fellow martial artist who passed away. It serves as a somber reminder that despite our shared passion for martial arts, it can’t shield us from life’s hardships. My deepest sympathies go out to his family during this difficult time. I hope this tragedy doesn’t dampen the spirit of MMA fans.
Matt Brown blames fighters for fighter pay
Matt Brown, a former fighter himself, believes that fighters are primarily responsible for their pay issues. He admits he often supported the UFC publicly regarding his own compensation. However, Matt now understands that fighters possess significant influence in this matter. (via @DamonMartin)

One of the biggest debates in MMA right now is the low fighter pay in the UFC. Veteran Matt Brown has spoken about about why he thinks the fighter pay is so low and who is to blame. “If anybody is to blame for fighter pay, it’s the fighters — and I’m one of them, at least formerly,” Brown said on the Fighter vs. Writer podcast. “I never fought against the UFC about my pay. You’ve seen on Instagram, Twitter, different interviews where the fighters stick up for the UFC.”
The Fighters are the ones who can create an opportunity, but since they accept lower wages, the low pay continues. The predicament is that many fighters start out with minimal resources, so a $12,000 contract seems like a fortune to them, and they won’t easily give it up. Someone needs to disrupt this cycle.
Conor McGregor plugs up-and-coming female fighter
1. This announcement is for a promotion! Ready to watch an underdog rise against a larger competitor, hailing from the same region as her recently defeated rival. And guess who’s joining the UFC family? None other than our very own Irish fighter, giving a battle cry that echoes through the ages! @danawhite reveals her signing soon…

Conor McGregor has urged Dana White to sign an up-and-coming Irish female MMA fighter following her impressive performance at Road to UFC last week. In a tweet, he wrote, “Ready for action in the blink of an eye to outmatch and overwhelm a larger opponent.” He concluded by challenging the current strawweight champion from the same region as her defeated rival, exclaiming, “This is magical! Announce her signing, brother! This is magic! Born fighter!”
As a passionate fan, I had the pleasure of witnessing Danni McCormack’s fight at Road to UFC. From the get-go, I was captivated. To be honest, it was the only truly exhilarating bout that evening. Hearing Conor’s sentiments about her potential signing resonates with me deeply. Here’s hoping the UFC recognizes her talent and brings her to the main event soon!
