Connick Jr. Rocks Mardi Gras Anthem

At the start of Super Bowl 2025, held on a Sunday, Harry Connick Jr. kicked off the event with an energetic rendition of “Go to the Mardi Gras,” originally sung by Professor Longhair.

In a stunning turn of events, the acclaimed musician, aged 57, unexpectedly graced the spotlight following Lady Gaga’s act at Caesar’s Superdome, his hometown venue in New Orleans.

At the concert, the actor who played “Find Me Falling” unexpectedly took to the stage with the band, leaving both the live audience and those watching from home astonished when he started to play the piano.

Before the thrilling showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles kicked off, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I took center stage to deliver a vibrant, spirited performance of the iconic Mardi Gras anthem.

Afterward, his version of the song mirrored Lady Gaga’s prerecorded rendition of “Hold My Hand,” her Top Gun theme song, that occurred on legendary Bourbon Street in the city.

Her performance honored the victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack that took place on the famous street as well as the victims of Hurricane Helene and the Los Angeles wildfires. 

Prior to the game’s start, Jon Batiste took over to play the national anthem, following Ledisi’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

For the halftime show, Kendrick Lamar and special guest SZA will be hitting the stage. 

For an unexpectedly stylish display, Connick donned a sleek, dark-red suede coat adorned with stripes reminiscent of a marching band down the front.

He put on stylish outwear over a simple black tee, then finished off his ensemble with dark pants and brown leather boots. (Multihyphenate talent is a term often used to describe someone who excels in multiple creative fields, so I replaced it with “stylistically versatile individual” for easier understanding.)

Following the renowned actor’s public disclosure about his personal family matters, he asserted that his three daughters are not beneficiaries of nepotism.

In more than three decades of marriage, Connick has been sharing his life with Georgia (age 28), Kate (age 27), and Charlotte (age 22). His partner is the former Victoria’s Secret model, Jill Goodacre, who is 60 years old.

The daughters of the couple have chosen similar paths, focusing on professions that keep them in the limelight, just like their parents.

In simpler terms, his oldest child, Georgia, is both a cinematographer and a photographer. She started her own production company and collaborated with him on one of his music video productions.

Kate, his second-born child, is a versatile figure in the fashion industry, serving as both a model and a designer, with acting credentials as well. She’s currently developing her very own clothing brand.

His youngest daughter Charlotte started appearing in his movies when she was just a kid. 

In one of my conversations, I shared that for me, it feels like my family always comes first. I’ve learned that when it comes to my career, be it music, acting, or writing, as long as my family is well-balanced, everything else seems to fall neatly into place.

I passionately shared: “Above everything else, this quintet holds the utmost importance for each of us. Despite having our individual lives with separate interests, acquaintances, and professions, we are all drawn back to this extraordinary group. It brings an indescribable sense of camaraderie.

However, Connick himself has emphasized that his daughters haven’t received any preferential treatment, dismissing allegations that they’re beneficiaries of nepotism. He even retorted to such accusations, labeling them as unfounded.

He has remarked that they are incredibly intelligent, ambitious, and extremely creative women. Furthermore, he emphasizes that our lives have significantly expanded due to the fresh insights we’ve acquired from their unique perspectives.
