For years, Cheryl Hines was one of Hollywood’s most outspoken liberals.
The 60-year-old actress used to publicly disagree with some of her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s, more controversial opinions.
People who have known Hines for a long time say she’s changed a lot since Kennedy joined Donald Trump’s administration, and they’re upset that she now strongly supports his policies.
People close to the Curb Your Enthusiasm actress told the Daily Mail they’re shocked by her recent shift in views, saying they barely recognize her as the Democrat they’ve known for years.
Since Donald Trump became president in January, she has consistently stood by her husband, even when he faced allegations of an online relationship with Olivia Nuzzi, a reporter for New York Magazine, last year. Those close to her are surprised by her steadfast support.
A longtime Hollywood friend, recalling their years knowing Hines, said it’s been difficult to understand his recent shift in views, given his previously liberal stance.
She’s now married to someone who works in the Trump administration and is publicly defending his controversial statements on the television show, The View.
Earlier this month, Hines was a guest on a popular morning talk show to discuss her new memoir, Unscripted.
During the show, she faced tough questions from Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar about her husband’s views on vaccines, leading to a heated discussion.

Hines, clearly frustrated, asked if the show would consider the concerns of parents who believe their children experienced developmental setbacks after receiving the vaccine. He wondered if their observations should be taken seriously.
She came to her husband’s defense after the show’s hosts labeled him the ‘least qualified HHS secretary ever,’ explaining that he’d spent his career working to improve product safety.
A source told the Daily Mail they were shocked, saying, “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing – who is that, and what happened to Cheryl?”
It was strange to see. While she clearly loves her husband, it seems like she’s given up her own principles to be with him.
Hines has never shied away from condemning her husband in the past.
In 2022, she strongly criticized his remarks comparing the treatment of unvaccinated people to the oppression faced by those living in Nazi Germany, calling them ‘reprehensible and insensitive’.
She clarified that her husband’s views don’t necessarily represent her own, explaining that despite their love for each other, they have different opinions on many important topics today.
Hines and Kennedy, 71, got married in 2014 at the Kennedy Compound in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Looking back, her marrying a Kennedy seemed right for her,” a friend in Hollywood commented. “But I never would have predicted this outcome.”
A longtime friend, recalling when Hines was a student at the University of Central Florida studying radio and television, was also surprised by the actress’s unexpected decision.

My friend told the Daily Mail that they avoid discussing politics. They explained that any attempt to do so quickly leads to arguments or disagreements.
‘It’s like she’s gone MAGA, or at least MAHA, which is just so…beyond comprehension to me.’
She shifted her perspective, moving from dismissing the other side as completely unreasonable to acknowledging they had valid arguments, and even stating that supporters of Donald Trump generally have good intentions and aren’t inherently malicious.
I find myself questioning whether she’s always been this way, or if something has recently changed her sense of right and wrong.
According to a source on the set of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Susie Greene actress, Suzanne Hines, has undergone a significant political shift since starting on the show in 1999.
According to a crew member who worked on the show for ten of its twelve seasons, she was a dedicated and openly proud Democrat throughout their time working together.
She used to advocate for progressive causes – urging people to vote Democratic, championing women’s and LGBTQ+ rights. Now, she’s taken a completely different stance.

I just… I can’t wrap my head around this. I always thought people could evolve, you know? Change their minds over time. But this? It feels like she flipped a switch overnight! I mean, I totally get that she’s allowed to think whatever she wants, but honestly? It’s just… baffling. It feels so out of character, and I’m genuinely shocked.
Hines has faced public backlash regarding her husband’s views, even from long-time colleagues in the television world.
She mentioned on the Megan Kelly show earlier this month that she avoids using social media whenever she can.
When I read those messages, I was really shocked by how awful he seemed. I was also confused about what he was trying to achieve.
Hines recently told CBS News that some of his friends found it hard to maintain their relationships after Bobby entered politics, and he empathizes with their decision.
When asked about Larry David’s likely reaction to Kennedy potentially joining President Trump’s Cabinet, she responded that it’s a question for David himself, but added, “He probably wouldn’t be thrilled about it.”
