Conan O’Brien Will Be In Toy Story 5, And He Dropped Some A+ Tom Hanks And Tim Allen Jokes While Revealing His Role
2025 has been quite an eventful year for Conan O’Brien, with highlights such as hosting the Academy Awards, winning the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and the return of his exclusive series Conan O’Brien Must Go for Season 2. Now, he can add another achievement to his impressive resume: voicing a character in Pixar’s upcoming film, Toy Story 5. In addition to announcing his role, O’Brien shared some hilarious jibes about Tom Hanks and Tim Allen during the process.
The former talk show host shared the big news on Instagram and was clearly excited about this, calling Toy Story a “legendary franchise” and describing the movies as “amazing.” But in classic Conan fashion, he couldn’t resist joking about the roles he wish he’d snagged instead:
At first, I had my heart set on playing Woody, but they informed me that it was already committed to Tom Hanks. So I suggested, ‘You’ve worked with him before, haven’t you? Maybe it’s time for a change, don’t you think?’ To which they replied, ‘No, it’s Tom Hanks. It’s his part.’ Then I proposed, ‘How about Buzz Lightyear instead?’ And I guessed correctly that Tim Allen would be playing that role too. I then suggested, ‘You know what? You should consider other options.’
Once we’ve had our laughs, Conan O’Brien went on to reveal that he will indeed join the cast for Toy Story 5, as he put it.
However, they introduced a new figure to me named Smartypants, and it’s my favorite among them all. Frankly, I can’t help but favor him over Woody or Buzz. In truth, if asked to play with either of those characters again, I would decline. Instead, I identify myself as Smartypants, and I adore this addition!
