During the opening of Sunday night’s Academy Awards, Conan O’Brien playfully teased Timothée Chalamet about a recent comment where the actor seemed to dismiss opera and ballet, making Chalamet visibly uncomfortable in front of his fellow Hollywood stars.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around this year’s hosting gig, and it’s great to see the comedian back for a second time! He really stepped into a big role last year, taking over from Jimmy Kimmel, and it’s clear he’s doing a fantastic job continuing the tradition.
He quickly addressed Timothée Chalamet, a Best Actor nominee, joking about the actor’s recent comment that people aren’t interested in ballet or opera.
Wearing a tuxedo, O’Brien addressed the audience at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, briefly stating, ‘Security is very tight tonight.’
He jokingly mentioned hearing worries about potential criticism from people involved with both opera and ballet.
The camera immediately showed Timothée Chalamet, who was smiling nervously while standing next to his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.
‘They’re just mad you left out jazz,’ O’Brien jokingly added.
Chalamet wasn’t the only A-list star to be called out by O’Brien.
Comedian Conan O’Brien jokingly crowned Leonardo DiCaprio the ‘king of memes’ because his funny facial expressions have been popular online for years, making him a frequent subject of internet jokes – and a competitor to Timothée Chalamet for the Best Actor award.
He’s a hugely popular actor, known for appearing in countless films and becoming a viral sensation online. As Ryan O’Brien put it, ‘He truly is the king of memes!’
O’Brien then forced DiCaprio to create a ‘new meme’ in real time as he remained in his Oscars seat.
The camera then showed Leonardo DiCaprio looking uncomfortable as O’Brien displayed the now-famous meme with the caption, ‘That feeling when you didn’t sign up for this.’
DiCaprio, always the professional, glanced at the closest camera and gave a playful smile and a shrug.
Michael B. Jordan is facing competition from Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet for Best Actor. Comedian Conan O’Brien jokingly criticized Jordan’s performance as twins in the popular horror film Sinners, which is also nominated for Best Picture.
O’Brien started by praising Michael B. Jordan’s performance, saying, ‘I have to say it again, you were incredible playing identical twin brothers in ‘Sinners.’
He playfully confessed he’s a huge fan of Michael B. Jordan, joking that every seat filler at the Oscars tonight was secretly the actor. The camera then panned to reveal a large group of people dressed like Jordan in white tuxedos.
O’Brien asked the Jordan clones, ‘By the way, how am I looking tonight, Michael B. Jordans?’

The 98th Academy Awards will honor the top movies of 2025 at a glamorous ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Conan O’Brien, age 62, will host the show again this year, marking his second year in a row after previously taking the job from Jimmy Kimmel.
Ryan Coogler’s film, ‘Sinners’, received an unprecedented 16 Academy Award nominations, making it the most nominated film ever in the awards’ history.
The scary movie is nominated for Best Picture, along with nine other films: Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams.
Michael B. Jordan, known for his role in ‘Sinners,’ is up against strong competition for Best Actor. He’s nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet (‘Marty Supreme’), Leonardo DiCaprio (‘One Battle After Another’), Ethan Hawke (‘Blue Moon’), and Wagner Moura (‘The Secret Agent’).
Sinners, a story set in 1930s Mississippi, centers around twin brothers (played by Jordan) who come home to find their hometown plagued by a mysterious, supernatural force.
The competition for Best Actor is incredibly close right now. Timothée Chalamet was the frontrunner early on, winning both the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice awards. However, Michael Jordan’s win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) has changed the dynamic and made the race much tighter.
The ceremony is happening at a sensitive time, following recent criticism of Timothée Chalamet for saying people aren’t interested in ballet or opera. His comments caused a strong negative reaction from those in the arts.
Josh Safdie’s film, Marty Supreme, inspired by the life of ping-pong star Marty Reisman, features Timothée Chalamet as a talented young table tennis player in 1950s New York. His drive to win a world championship puts a strain on his relationships with those around him.
I’m so excited for Jessie Buckley! I really think she’s going to win Best Actress for her incredible performance in Hamnet. The competition is fierce though – Rose Byrne is amazing in If I Had Legs I would Kick You, and Kate Hudson’s work in Song Sung Blue is fantastic. Renate Reinsve and Emma Stone are both phenomenal too, with their roles in Sentimental Value and Bugonia respectively, so it’s going to be a tough category!
Directed by Chloe Zhao, who won Best Director in 2021, Hamnet offers a fresh look at William Shakespeare’s personal life. The film explores how the loss of his eleven-year-old son deeply affected him and inspired the creation of his famous play, Hamlet.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another earned 13 nominations.
The film received critical acclaim, including a nomination for Best Director, as well as acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio (Best Actor), Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn (both for Best Supporting Actor).
This darkly humorous action movie centers on a former revolutionary (Leonardo DiCaprio) who’s been living in hiding. He’s pulled back into the world when his old enemy – a ruthless and corrupt military officer (Sean Penn) – targets his daughter, forcing him to come to her rescue.
Joining Penn and del Toro as contenders for Best Supporting Actor are Jacob Elordi for his role in Frankenstein, Delroy Lindo from Sinners, and Stellan Skarsgard in Sentimental Value.
Many observers felt Paul Mescal (for his role in Hamnet), Adam Sandler (Jay Kelly), and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia) deserved to be nominated but were overlooked.
Frankenstein and Sentimental Value both earned nine nominations at this year’s ceremony.
Guillermo del Toro’s take on Frankenstein beautifully retells Mary Shelley’s story, centering on the painful relationship between a father and his creation, and the creature’s search for acceptance and love.
Joachim Trier’s film, Sentimental Value, centers on two sisters who must come to terms with their complicated relationship with their long-distant father, a filmmaker.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m keeping an eye on this year’s Best Supporting Actress nominees, and it’s a fantastic lineup! We’ve got Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas both recognized for their work in ‘Sentimental Value,’ while Amy Madigan is nominated for ‘Weapons,’ Wunmi Mosaku for ‘Sinners,’ and the incredibly talented Teyana Taylor for ‘One Battle After Another.’ It’s going to be tough to pick a winner – so much talent!
Fans were very upset when Ariana Grande wasn’t nominated for a supporting role in the movie Wicked.

She had been nominated last year for her work in the first film of the musical franchise.
Despite strong reviews and a standout performance by Cynthia Erivo, the movie ‘Wicked: For Good’ didn’t receive any award nominations. This was surprising, considering the film also featured new songs like ‘No Place Like Home’ and ‘The Girl In The Bubble’.
Gwyneth Paltrow was also left off the list in the category for her work in Marty Supreme.
A new award for Best Casting was announced this year. The first nominees are Nina Gold for Hamnet, Jennifer Venditti for Marty Supreme, Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another, Gabriel Domingues for The Secret Agent, and Francine Maisler for Sinners.
The event starts at 7pm Eastern Time / 4pm Pacific Time and will be broadcast live on ABC. You can also watch it live on Hulu, or stream it through services like Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV.
