Conan O’Brien publicly addressed the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner. The couple’s deaths occurred after a disagreement between Rob Reiner and his son, Nick, at O’Brien’s holiday party the night before.
‘It’s just so awful,’ O’Brien said in an interview with The New Yorker, published on Friday.
It’s still difficult for me to accept that Rob is gone, especially considering how passionate and engaged he was with what was happening in the world. He always made his voice heard, and losing that so suddenly is something I’m still trying to understand.
Reiner and his wife were discovered deceased at their Los Angeles home in the Brentwood area in December 2025.
That night, their 32-year-old son was arrested and couldn’t post bail. Shortly after, he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Shortly before, Reiner and Nick reportedly had a heated argument at O’Brien’s Christmas party.
Guests at a comedian’s Christmas party told the Daily Mail that O’Brien intervened during a heated argument between Reiner and Nick, preventing a friend from calling emergency services.
According to reports, Nick was acting strangely throughout the evening. A source at the party told the Daily Mail that the argument became so heated, a guest even considered calling the police.
According to a source, a father and son had a heated argument that became so intense, someone considered calling the police.
Conan intervened, stating he wouldn’t involve the police since it was his home and his event. He successfully convinced them to not make the call.
Someone else confirmed what happened, stating that people at the party were worried about Nick’s well-being and thought they should call the police, but O’Brien stopped them.
According to a source, during the crisis, someone suggested calling the police to have the young person taken for a mental health evaluation.
According to a source, Conan O’Brien told someone, “No, I don’t want the police coming to my house.” The source explained that it’s understandable – nobody wants a police presence causing a disturbance.
‘But the argument between Rob and Nick was pretty intense.’
Someone with knowledge of the investigation at the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that no emergency calls were made from O’Brien’s home on the night in question.
