The new Northern Irish drama, Say Nothing, starts tonight on Channel 4. It’s based on a true story from Patrick Radden Keefe’s book and is set in Belfast during the most intense period of The Troubles in the 1970s.
The book, Say Nothing, tells the stories of people involved with the Irish Republican Army (IRA). It examines how strongly people can believe in something, how easily a fractured society can erupt into violence, the lasting impact of that violence, and the personal toll of keeping secrets.
The new nine-episode series begins on Channel 4 on December 1st at 9pm. The second and third episodes will be shown one after the other on Tuesday, December 2nd.

If you can’t wait to find out what happens, Say Nothing first came out on Disney+ in 2024 and is currently still available to stream there in the UK.
The story covers forty years and centers around the disappearance of Jean McConville. In 1972, this mother of ten was taken from her home and was never seen again.

The film features Lola Petticrew and Hazel Doupe as the Price sisters, Dolours and Marian, who became well-known figures in radical politics due to their controversial actions. Maxine Peake and Helen Behan portray the sisters in their later years.
Anthony Boyle plays Brendan Hughes, a military strategist, and Josh Finan portrays Gerry Adams, a politician who eventually led Sinn Féin. Adams later participated in peace talks and has consistently maintained he was not involved with the IRA.

The documentary Say Nothing has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 94% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 50 reviews. Decider called it a “triumph.”
According to Vogue, the show is a truly captivating drama, created with the same care and respect for detail as the journalism that originally inspired it, ensuring it accurately reflects the complex stories it tells.
The Washington Post praised “Say Nothing,” noting its complex and moving portrayal of resistance, betrayal, loss, guilt, anger, and regret, achieved through shifts in genre and time periods.
Say Nothing airs on Channel 4 and streams on Disney+.
