London-set period drama My Week with Marilyn has found itself a new streaming home in the UK.
The movie from 2011, titled “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale”‘s director, Simon Curtis, is the one who guided this narrative. It centers around a rising filmmaker named Colin, who finds himself entangled in the intricate world of Marilyn Monroe during a week-long stint. During this time, he witnesses the heated conflicts between Marilyn and Laurence Olivier while they were working on the film “The Prince and the Showgirl”.
Despite everyone’s caution, Colin finds himself developing an affection for the renowned Hollywood star, often finding himself entangled in her private struggles.

The narrative is vividly portrayed by an illustrious ensemble of actors, such as Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Toby Jones, Emma Watson, Dominic Cooper, and Derek Jacobi.
Over the weekend, the movie was broadcasted on TV. You can now stream it on BBC iPlayer, but remember, this option will only be available for the next 28 days.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has 188 critic reviews, with a strong score of 82% positive.
The Guardian found the movie incredibly entertaining, featuring exceptional acting from Kenneth Branagh and Michelle Williams. They even went as far as stating that Olivier was a role tailor-made for him.
In their review, Metro described “My Week With Marilyn” as offering an engaging portrayal of Marilyn Monroe’s inner struggles. Furthermore, they noted that the film boasts enough glamour, warmth, and mystery to captivate its audience.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’d say The Playlist’s review leans towards a mixed response. They acknowledged that the film isn’t exactly a disaster, boasting an exceptional cast who manage to breathe life into somewhat ordinary content. Despite its shortcomings, it manages to keep you hooked and even tolerable for many viewers. However, they also pointed out that it lacks depth or substance, much like a bone picked clean by scavengers.
While it has some commendable qualities and can hold your interest occasionally, the movie ‘My Week With Marilyn’ essentially offers shallow, surface-level entertainment in the end.
My Week with Marilyn is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
