You can now watch a recent stage production of Shakespeare’s Othello at home. The play, featuring Toby Jones, was originally performed at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London’s West End.
This new production of Othello features music by PJ Harvey and is directed by Tony Award-winning director Tom Morris. It stars Mark Jones as the scheming Iago, and David Harewood reprises his role as Othello three decades after first playing the part.
Caitlin FitzGerald played Desdemona in the production, which finished its stage run in January and was released in cinemas in March. Now, you can watch it at home on Marquee TV for £8.99 a month.

This version of Othello, starring Vinette Robinson as Emilia and Luke Treadaway as Cassio, updates Shakespeare’s classic 1603 tragedy for modern audiences. It tells the story of Othello, a military leader who is manipulated by Iago into believing his wife is being unfaithful.
According to The Telegraph, Morris’s version of the play was a captivating show, featuring outstanding performances from the lead actors. They particularly praised Jones, who played a delightfully wicked Iago, and FitzGerald, who was a brilliant Desdemona.

In a review, The I Paper described the new Shakespeare production as a deeply personal and moving tragedy, likely to please traditional Shakespeare fans. They particularly praised the lead actor, Harewood, calling his performance smooth and charming.
Honestly, this production just works. There’s no weird stuff going on, no director trying to show off. It’s just really clear and confident storytelling, which as a gamer, I really appreciate when a story just lets me play it. I’m hearing the hardcore fans are loving it, and I totally get why – it’s a solid, respectful take.
The Mail on Sunday called the theatre production a thrilling and impressive performance of Othello, featuring a cast of well-known actors. However, The Guardian felt the production, while featuring strong acting, could have explored the story’s themes more thoroughly.
The review highlighted how the experiences of the two female characters with sexism echo Shakespeare’s forward-thinking views on gender, showing the play explores both gender and racial themes. While the adaptation is well-done, the review also felt it lacked a strong central focus.

The production of Othello, which debuted in October 2025, is described as a sweeping tale of how manipulation, jealousy, and harmful ideas about masculinity can destroy people. It delves into the dangerous consequences of unchecked power, anger, and strong desires.
Othello is a celebrated and accomplished man, but his life begins to fall apart when a jealous and manipulative person starts spreading lies. This deceit doesn’t just ruin Othello’s good name—it also destroys his mental state.
Othello is available to stream on Marquee TV.
