If you’ve enjoyed Rick & Morty, you should definitely watch Common Side Effects. It feels like a natural next step for the show created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. It’s amazing to think Rick and Morty is already heading into its ninth season – the show is quickly becoming a modern classic with its unique, strange, and funny style on Adult Swim.
As a huge Rick and Morty fan, it still feels fresh in my mind when they built that whole theme park inside someone! But honestly, after so many seasons, you do start to notice some familiar beats. It’s not the show’s fault, really – it just happens with any series that runs for a long time. That said, “Common Side Effects” totally feels like Rick and Morty, but it manages to bring something new and really inventive to the table with its psychedelic, adult animation style.
Common Side Effects Is A Mature, Off-beat, And Thrilling Animated Series

Common Side Effects is an animated show on Adult Swim, so you might expect a certain kind of humor or style. However, the show still manages to be unexpected. Created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely, who previously worked on Scavengers Reign, the series has 10 episodes.
Common Side Effects blends the vibes of Scavengers Reign and Rick and Morty, with a touch of King of the Hill, thanks to Mike Judge’s involvement as an executive producer and voice actor. The show centers on the friendship between Marshall (Dave King) and Francis (Emily Pendergast), who have known each other since high school.
It’s incredible – Marshall and I reconnected after he found this amazing mushroom called the Blue Angel. It seemed to heal everything! But we quickly realized it wasn’t just a lucky discovery. We uncovered a huge conspiracy – it turns out powerful pharmaceutical companies and even the government were involved with the mushroom, and they weren’t using it to help people. It’s a really messed up situation, and we’re trying to figure out what’s really going on.
Common Side Effects is a really engaging show with fantastic animation, topics that actually matter, and a surprisingly funny sense of humor. While it’s not quite like watching Rick and Morty, it has a similar energy and vibrancy that makes you want to rewatch every episode.
Common Side Effects Has Been Renewed For A Second Season

I’m excited to report that Common Side Effects is coming back for a second season in March 2025! If you haven’t checked it out yet, now’s the perfect time. The first season wraps things up nicely, but also leaves you wanting more – it’s a fantastic setup for what’s to come.

I’m really enjoying Common Side Effects, and I’m hoping it has a long run like Rick and Morty. It’s hard to say if it’ll keep going strong past a couple of seasons, but everything’s looking good so far! The story is great, the animation is fantastic, and the people behind it are incredibly talented, which makes me think Common Side Effects could be around for a while.
