Comedian Sara Pascoe reveals she is ‘glad I gave birth at 40’ after witnessing her mother’s sacrifices as a young parent

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve found myself echoing the sentiments shared by Sara Pascoe, who expressed gratitude for choosing to become a parent at 40. This decision allowed her to avoid missing out on the carefree adventures of youth, a precious experience my own mother unfortunately missed due to early parenthood.

43-year-old comedian, currently married to actor Steen Raskopoulos (age 37), recently added sons Theodore (aged 2) and Albie (aged 13 months) to their family through the process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

In a recent open conversation with The Sunday Times, the celebrity shared that she found contentment in delaying parenthood until her 40s, desiring a unique lifestyle for herself instead.

Sara mentioned that her mother, who became a parent at the age of 20, seemed to lack personal experiences outside of raising her and her two younger siblings, as she primarily cared for them on her own.

In my own words, I expressed: ‘I had to put in immense effort, which unfortunately left me without close companions or a lively social scene. I missed out on movie nights and more. Yet, I yearned for a lifestyle that was different.’

When Sara found herself pregnant at the age of 16, she chose to undergo an abortion, a decision she’s never looked back on with regret.

In 2022, they finally welcomed their son, Theodore, after going through two cycles of IVF when she faced difficulties getting pregnant earlier. In 2023, their second child, Albie, joined the family.

In her conversation, Sara shared that she is content with her decision to wait until she was 40 to become a mother. She expressed, ‘Despite dealing with infertility issues and other complications, I was fortunate to have 20 years of life that my mom didn’t get.’

In October 2023, Sara revealed she ‘couldn’t believe her luck’ after welcoming her second child.

The comedian, who openly discusses her fertility challenges, recently delighted fans by posting heartwarming initial photos of her newborn baby boy, Albie. She announced to her audience that she and her husband Steen have become parents for the first time together.

On Instagram, Sara posted multiple pictures of her sons, Albie and Theodore. In the caption, she wrote: “Due to being in a hormonal phase for three weeks, I’ve been delayed in sharing this – here’s baby Albie!

At 42 years old, having undergone IVF, I find myself astonished by the fortune of raising not one but two children. And let me tell you, I’m equally amazed at the abundance of laundry that comes with it!

I’ll catch up with you at concerts towards the end of the year once I’ve managed to stop tearing up every few minutes, sending tons of love 💕💕💕. By the way, the last picture is @steenrasko, his expression perfectly captures the postpartum period, don’t you think?

Earlier today, The Great British Sewing Bee shared on their social media platforms that there is a new addition to Sara’s family, expressing their affection by saying, “Sending our warmest wishes to Sara and her newly born child!

In April 2023, Sara shared about the challenges she faced with fertility problems affecting her stand-up comedy and her concerns about refusing jobs once her child arrives.

Prior to delivering a child, she faced difficulties with conceiving and often humorously addressed her struggles with infertility.

Following the birth of her child, she adapted her work to mirror her role as a mother, acknowledging that it has become more intricate.

In an interview with Radio Times, Sara shared her thoughts: “People, including ourselves, are inherently inconsistent. What might be valid in a certain phase of your life or profession may not hold true later.

During my work on Out of Her Mind [the BBC2 sitcom in 2020], I had come to terms with the reality of my infertility, and I embraced this aspect of myself fully within the context of the show.

A year after that, I welcomed a child through In Vitro Fertilization. Those who were connected to my story often asked, ‘But who are you now?’ It was as if I had to say, ‘I’m afraid people can be quite intricate!’

As someone who once grappled with infertility, I found myself guarded and sensitive. But now, as a proud mother, I can’t help but sprinkle my conversations with a dash of mum humor. I’ve become an open book – sharing my experiences without reservation. I’m at ease with the dialogue that follows, embracing the opportunity to share my journey and connect with others who might be going through similar experiences.
