Comedian Ken Flores’ cause of death revealed seven months after he died at 28 in his LA home

Seven months following his untimely demise at the age of 28, the reason behind comedian Ken Flores‘ sudden passing has come to light.

In January 2025, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner found that Flores had passed away due to a drug overdose.

According to reports from TMZ, it was found by the medical examiner that the sudden death of the up-and-coming comedian was an unfortunate accident caused by excessive cocaine use.

At the time of his passing, Flores was battling congestive heart failure as well. This ailment was identified in the report as a significant factor leading to his demise.

At the time of Flores’ passing, it was confirmed by the medical examiner that cocaine was the sole substance found in his system, with no detection of harmful substances such as alcohol, fentanyl, methamphetamine, opiates, or other drugs.

It was previously reported that Flores had been concerned about his heart condition.

In early January, it was reported by TMZ that Flores had been working diligently on improving his health prior to his passing.

Based on information from the Cleveland Clinic, ‘Congestive heart failure refers to a chronic issue where the heart is unable to efficiently pump blood, resulting in an insufficient supply to your body. Over time, fluid accumulates in the lungs and limbs.’

According to trusted insiders, including friends who were a comedian as well as figures in law enforcement, Flores had frequently asked for medical assistance on different occasions during the past two years.

Flores had also been losing weight and attempting to improve his health.

It was also reported by TMZ that oxygen tanks were discovered in his residence, which could suggest that he was undergoing home oxygen therapy – a treatment often employed for conditions like congestive heart failure, as explained by Dignity Health.

Ken suffered a heart attack at home and was discovered there by a friend. This friend immediately dialed 911 and began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the paramedics arrived, according to TMZ’s report.

Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.

Insiders added that no drugs were found and foul play was not suspected.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy, and it was stated that the results of a toxicology test would determine the cause and manner of death at a later time, as reported by TMZ.

Flores’ family announced his tragic passing in January in a statement posted to his Instagram.

On Kenyi Flores’ Instagram account, his family shared the sorrowful news of his unexpected demise, mourning him as a cherished friend, sibling, and child.

‘Please respect our privacy at this time as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss.’

Just before his passing, Flores confided through X that he was striving to be alcohol-free for his 2025 tour.

The comedian from Chicago began his tour a few weeks back and with great pride, he can announce that he has attended every performance thus far – including five shows in Portland, one in Albuquerque, and four in Atlanta – all without consuming a drop of alcohol, as shared on Twitter.

‘Nervous for Phoenix next weekend but I think I got it. I’m not sober just wanna chill a bit.’

Ken had been arranged to perform at Desert Ridge Improv in Phoenix, Arizona soon after his passing.

Flores can attribute much of his success, with his content going viral on Instagram and TikTok, to the support of his 969K social media followers.

Previously, the host of Talkin’ My S podcast had engaged in a roast battle with none other than the Roastmaster General, Jeff Ross.

Initiated the online homages, The Hollywood Improv shared a series of photos depicting Ken on stage at their iconic location.

‘We were honored to share your talent on our stages,’ Hollywood Improv wrote.

‘Your greatness shone through, and it was inevitable that the world would come to recognize it. Beyond your brilliance, you were always kind and an exceptional friend to everyone fortunate enough to know you. Fondly, we say farewell to Ken, grateful for all the joy you brought us.’

Funny guy Carlos Flores recently shared an Instagram post with the caption, “It feels surreal that I’ve only just met you, my friend… You were the kindest and most entertaining individual ever. Rest in Peace, young legend.” (paraphrased)

Oh my goodness, I can hardly believe it! I had been eagerly anticipating that this wasn’t true. The news of Ken’s passing leaves me utterly heartbroken. He was truly a unique talent, destined for greatness. Rest In Peace, Ken. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Band Los Desvelados posted a picture with the caption: “Thank you, Ken, for all the fantastic moments, the laughter, the jests. We’ll really miss you!

Comedian René Vaca posted a heartfelt slide show, titled: “Life will no longer be the same. I love you so incredibly, my king.” (or simply “My dear king, life won’t be the same now. I love you deeply.”)

The comedy account Foos Gone Wild shared: ‘With deep sadness, we announce the passing of @kenflores300, a remarkably talented and hilarious individual. It was an honor to have collaborated with him at the FGW Comedy Store show. Our thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

This paraphrase maintains the original sentiment while using more formal language that may be more appropriate for a condolence message. Additionally, it clarifies who @kenflores300 is by describing him as “a remarkably talented and hilarious individual” to make it clear to those who might not be familiar with him. Finally, it replaces the informal term “Socks up to heavens” with a more traditional expression of respect, “May he rest in peace.
