Comedian Frank Skinner became emotional and cried after unexpectedly seeing someone he knew on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show was back on TV screens Saturday night, filmed at the famous Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.
Frank Skinner was the first guest on Saturday’s show, and he played a game of Remember Me that was both humorous and touching.
In this game, a celebrity is surprised by people from their past who rise onto the stage through a hidden opening. For Frank, the first person to appear was Shayda, his eye doctor, and then Jeff, a classmate from elementary school.
And then she walked in. I almost couldn’t breathe! It was the nurse, the one who helped bring little Frank Jr. into the world thirteen years ago! I mean, I’ve followed Frank’s life so closely, I knew every detail of that night, and to see her there… it just completely stopped him in his tracks, I could tell. It was incredible!
‘If you are who I think you are, are you Cathy?’ a stunned Frank said, as he got choked up.
Visibly moved, Frank shared, ‘This is Cathy – she delivered my baby, and he’s here with us tonight. He’s thirteen years old now.’
It turned out to be an emergency C-section, and Cathy quickly put on her scrubs and took charge. She then handed me this beautiful baby.
The pair shared a hug on stage and Cathy told Frank: ‘I’m so pleased to see you.’
Frank wiped a tear from his face and said: ‘What an amazing woman she is, honestly.
‘You handed me the most amazing gift I have ever had in my entire life, Cathy. Thank you so much.’
The heartwarming reunion also touched viewers at home, who shared their reactions on social media. One user wrote, ‘It was so sweet to see Frank Skinner getting emotional on #MichaelMcIntyresBigShow when he met the midwife who delivered his son. That was fantastic television!’
It’s touching to see such real emotion from Frank. I never expected to be moved to tears by Frank Skinner, honestly!
‘Not me crying cos Frank Skinner is crying cos Cathy is there who delivered his son 13 yrs ago,’;
‘Frank Skinner. Brilliant comedian and now an unexpected National Treasure. Wonderful stuff.’
Just recently, comedian Romesh Ranganathan was visibly emotional when he unexpectedly came face-to-face with his first girlfriend during an appearance on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.
The comedian and TV presenter was clearly embarrassed when he recognized the guest, after Michael had brought them on stage.
The BBC comedy show frequently features celebrity guests who are surprised by someone from their past in a segment called ‘Remember Me?’
Romesh, 47, seemed unhappy to unexpectedly see someone he used to have a crush on in school, reacting with shock and telling Michael, ‘This is awful!’
A woman was brought onto the stage and asked Romesh, ‘Remember me?’ He looked confused and just smiled at the host, Michael.
He admitted he did, then lowered his head as the comedian revealed a hint about who the guests were.
Michael playfully offered a hint to help with the historical question, then displayed the word ‘field’ on the large screen.
“This is terrible!” Romesh exclaimed, making the audience laugh, and his female guest chuckled sheepishly.
Romesh explained they simply went to school together, downplaying the connection and jokingly attributing it to a shared pastime – playing cricket.
Michael asked if anyone remembered the person’s name. The host of the Parents’ Evening raised her eyebrows and replied, ‘Sonya,’ which was met with enthusiastic applause.
When Michael asked about their history, he learned they hadn’t seen each other since they were sixteen and in school together.
Romesh repeated, “I think you know, Michael, don’t you?” Then, addressing Sonya, he said, “I haven’t seen you in a while, and I’m really not pleased about this.”
Michael then shared another hint, displaying the word “SNOG” on the large screen right behind guest Sonya.
The comedian then surprised Romesh and Sonya by revealing an old school photo of them happily cuddling together, just in case that didn’t clarify things.
Sonya explained that they had been in the same math class and attended their fifth-year leaving party together, where there was likely a little bit of playful flirting.
‘There was no heavy petting… He went for the kiss.’
Romesh, laughing, explained that he’d asked Sonya to go for a walk with him, and while they were in the woods, he tried to kiss her.
‘Then what followed was, in theory, we were going out… for a week.’
He shifted his attention to Sonya and asked, ‘Forgive me for interrupting, but Sonya, have I ever crossed your mind?’ She responded bluntly, ‘No.’
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show airs Saturday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer
