Comedian Adam Hills reveals very surprising career move… and no other Australian has ever held the position
As an obsessed fan of rugby league and a fervent supporter of Adam Hills, I couldn’t be more thrilled about his recent announcement as the next president of the Rugby Football League. The passion and enthusiasm that radiates from him for this sport is truly inspiring, and it’s no secret that he has been an eloquent advocate for rugby league in the media.
Comedian Adam Hills has revealed a very surprising new career move.
The host of The Last Leg, who is 54 years old, has announced that he will assume the role of president for the Rugby Football League, which oversees rugby league sports in the United Kingdom, in the near future.
Tony Sutton, CEO of the Rugby Football League, expressed his pleasure in a statement regarding the upcoming change that will take place starting next year.
“I’m thrilled that Adam Hills MBE has agreed to take over from Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, as we invited him to do so,” the person stated.
In recent years, Adam has been an unmatched and passionate promoter of rugby league through the media. His excitement and skillful expression were evident whether he was hosting Channel 4’s Super League broadcasts or welcoming England’s Wheelchair World Cup champions as guests on The Last Leg.
In a historic first, Adam is set to be formally elected to his honorary position in December.
The Rugby Football League was founded in 1895.
Taking to X on Wednesday, Adam expressed his delight with the appointment.
‘I’m so honoured to be endorsed as the next President of the Rugby Football League,’ he wrote.
Growing up, rugby league was a significant part of my life. I was always captivated by the energy and camaraderie that came with every match. As I got older, my passion for the game only grew stronger. Today, I’m deeply committed to promoting all aspects of rugby league.
People responded to Adam’s post with heartfelt congratulations, such as “What great news! Your enthusiasm and devotion for the game are clearly evident on your face.”

Another well-wisher offered a similar: ‘Couldn’t think of anyone better. I applaud this loudly.’
Speaking to ABC News in June, Adam revealed that rugby league had been a lifelong obsession.
In 2017, Adam was thrilled to discover that his cherished South Sydney Rabbitohs had established a rugby league for people with disabilities. Being a user of a prosthesis himself, he joined Warrington, a disability rugby league team based in the United Kingdom.

Adam shared with the media that he declined an opportunity to attend Prince Charles’ birthday party due to clashing schedules with his team’s training sessions, demonstrating his deep-rooted commitment to the club.
I didn’t merely feel reluctant to disappoint my team. Instead, I eagerly preferred dedicating an hour and a half to training over being cooped up at Buckingham Palace surrounded by formal attire.
He mentioned that the sport now holds great interest for him, providing a refreshing contrast to his comedy work.
Rugby, he said ‘became a bit of an obsession.’
During that period of my life, I had already explored a great deal of stand-up comedy and felt the need for a mental break.
