Colin Jost, non-Olympian, hurts his foot in Tahiti while covering 2024 Olympics surfing

As a seasoned traveler and comedy enthusiast, I can’t help but find myself chuckling at Colin Jost’s misadventures during his coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics in Tahiti. The man seems to have more encounters with coral reefs and ants than most athletes have with their respective sporting events!

In the beginning of Colin Jost’s 2024 Paris Olympics journey, things didn’t go as planned – it was his left foot that encountered trouble first.

The comedian known for “Saturday Night Live” revealed that he’s undergoing treatment for injuries he got while assisting NBC with surfing coverage at the Games in Tahiti. On Monday, he posted a picture on social media showing his left foot with three bandaged toes.

“He posted on Instagram, ‘It’s a clear sign things are awesome when I’ve visited the Olympic medical center more often than any of the athletes.'”

Last week when Jost arrived in Tahiti, he stated that surfing wasn’t what caused his injury. Instead, it was the coral reefs of Tahiti that were responsible. Interestingly, on the very same day as the opening ceremony, Jost shared a photo of his injured foot on social media with the caption, “The reef was thrilled to meet me.”

To add further clarity, if the vivid image didn’t provide sufficient detail, Jost additionally discussed his injury during a recent broadcast, offering a more in-depth look at it to the 2024 Olympics audience.

To Maria Taylor of NBC Sports, he explained that he had been moving in one spot due to an unexpected issue: ants crawling into his wounds if he stood still. He mentioned that he would seek treatment at a medical station. In another conversation over the weekend, Jost told Taylor that he has grown accustomed to visiting the medical tent.

He humorously compared himself to a war reporter asking for a bandage from the army, stating, “My foot is infected and unfortunately, it’s not getting any better.”

Alongside his broadcast from the largest island in French Polynesia, Tahiti, Jost’s coverage also showcased some local chickens and an improvised news station setup.

“He informed the ‘Olympic Highlights’ hosts, Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson, that he has chickens serving as producers, but there are pesky flies buzzing near the camera.”

Sounds like paradise.
