Colin Firth’s ’80s-set Lockerbie disaster drama confirms 2025 release date
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in narrative-driven games like “Heavy Rain” and “The Walking Dead,” I can’t help but feel a pang of anticipation for “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth.” The trailer alone, with its poignant performances and gripping storyline, has already hooked me.
Colin Firth’s 1980s-set Lockerbie disaster series will be released in 2025, it has been confirmed.
Actress known for her role in “Bridget Jones” will feature in the five-part miniseries titled “Lockerbie: A Quest for Truth.” This series is based upon the tragic events of the Lockerbie bombing, a terror attack that took place on Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21, 1988.
The documentary titled “Lockerbie: In Quest of Truth” is set to premiere on Sky Atlantic this coming Thursday, 2nd January. It will be accessible for streaming in the United Kingdom and Ireland via NOW, and in the United States on Peacock.
The latest trailer gives fans a glimpse of The King’s Speech star Firth as Jim Swire, a father who embarks on a journey across three decades for answers about the Pan AM Flight 103 bombing in which he lost his daughter Flora.
He stars alongside Slow Horses’ Catherine McCormack, who plays Jim’s wife Jane Swire.
On a fateful December 21st, 1988, I was left heartbroken as Pan Am Flight 103, carrying 259 passengers and crew, tragically exploded 38 minutes after takeoff, raining destruction upon the peaceful Scottish town of Lockerbie. An additional 11 locals also lost their lives as the plane crash-landed in our tranquil community.
Following the tragic event that claimed his daughter’s life, Dr. Jim Swire (played by Firth) was chosen as the representative for the British families affected, rallying together in pursuit of truth and justice.
On an unyielding voyage spanning multiple continents and ideological boundaries, Jim finds himself thrust into a perilous adventure that potentially risks his mental wellbeing, family, and very existence. This journey also shakes the foundation of his faith in the legal system to its core.
“As the truth shifts under Jim’s feet, his view of the world is left forever changed.
Delving into the events surrounding the disaster and its aftermath, “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth” offers a personal narrative about a man, a loving spouse, and a devoted parent, who puts everything on the line in honor of his daughter, and in an unyielding quest for truth and justice.
The series is based on Swire and Peter Biddulph’s book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice.
In this production, the principal scriptwriter for the play is David Harrower, while Maryam Hamidi has penned an individual episode as a secondary contributor.
BAFTA Award-winning director Otto Bathurst, who has previously worked on shows like “Peaky Blinders” and “The Winter King”, is the main director for this series, with Jim Loach from “Save Me” also set to direct an episode.
The truth-seeking documentary titled “Lockerbie” is set to air on Sky Atlantic starting from January 2. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, you can stream it on NOW, while viewers in the US can catch it on Peacock.
