Colin Farrell set for second DC role in Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt Rock

Colin Farrell is in talks to star in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming DC movie.

As reported by Deadline, it appears that the actor is considering taking on the main part in the upcoming movie “Sgt Rock.” This role would be his second within the DC universe, following his successful portrayal of a character in the critically-acclaimed series “The Penguin” last year.

The news arrives following the announcement that Daniel Craig will no longer be playing the part in the movie, a role he had informally been linked to as the comic book hero.

Sergeant Rock, also known as Franklin John Rock, made his debut in the 1959 DC comic book “Our Army at War”. He’s renowned for commanding the Easy Company during World War II with a straightforward demeanor.

This project signifies a collaboration between Guadagnino and Justin Kuritzkes, as they penned the scripts for Guadagnino’s upcoming films in 2024 titled “Challengers” and “Queer,” marking their reunion.

Following his initial appearance as Oz Cobb in Matt Reeves’ 2022 movie “The Batman”, Farrell took on the role again for the spin-off series “The Penguin” last year, where he portrayed the character as he ascended through Gotham City’s criminal underworld.

Although initially marketed as a miniseries, Reeves hinted that viewers might get additional episodes delving further into the dark crime scenes of Gotham City.

Indeed, discussions are underway with showrunner Lauren LeFranc regarding the possibility of another season, he shared with Variety. It was a unique and memorable experience for me, and I simply feel incredibly lucky.

He noted, “These characters aren’t mine; they’re part of a larger universe.” It essentially boils down to how one can interact with them in a manner that reveals their unique perspectives or experiences.

Alongside Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Mark Strong, Michael Kelly, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Carmen Ejogo, among others, The Penguin graces the screen.

1. Sgt Rock’s debut date hasn’t been announced yet.

2. The Penguin show is broadcast on Max in the US, while it airs on NOW and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
