Colin Farrell reveals why it’s “difficult” to return to his “phenomenal” hit crime thriller

Colin Farrell explains that coming back for another season of his hit show “The Penguin” might not be feasible.

In the upcoming sequel to “The Batman,” titled “The Batman Part II,” actor Farrell will once again take on the role of Oz. His portrayal of the comic book villain left both fans and critics in awe, with The Daily Beast calling it nothing short of extraordinary, even describing it as “remarkable.

It’s not necessarily the time spent on prosthetic makeup that’s hindering Farrell, as you might assume; instead, it’s primarily due to the intricacies of storytelling.

In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell expressed that it could prove challenging to make Oz the main character in a second season due to his brutal actions at the end of season one, such as killing Victor.

He remarked, “Indeed, I believe it adds complexity to the prospect of another season.” He further explained, “Ending Vic’s character was quite challenging and demanding. It’s not that we can’t recover from it, but it undeniably makes the journey tougher, similar to climbing a steeper slope.

In April, it was made clear by Channing Dungey, the head of Warner Bros Television Group and WBD US Networks as Chairman and CEO, that a second season wasn’t being planned at this time.

In a conversation with Deadline, they mentioned that “The Penguin” was initially conceived as a limited series, but an intriguing aspect is that everyone associated with it shows interest in revisiting these characters and potentially creating more content.

“But I would never say never.”

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the mastermind behind DC, James Gunn, has recently given us a sneak peek into the progress of “The Batman Part II.” Excitingly, it looks like we can expect its release in 2027!

Matt’s actions remain significantly crucial, disregarding any conflicting accounts, as shared with Entertainment Weekly by Gunn. We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of that script soon, and I am genuinely excited about it.

The Penguin is streaming on Max.
