Colin Farrell looks smart in a navy blue suit as he films for season two of Apple TV series Sugar in Los Angeles
On a bustling Friday in Los Angeles, Colin Farrell exuded intellectual sophistication while filming episodes for season two of his Apple TV show, Sugar.
In a navy blue suit, the 48-year-old Irish actor, playing the lead role of John Sugar in the neo-noir mystery drama, prepared for his part.
Or:
As John Sugar, the lead character in the neo-noir mystery drama, the 48-year-old Irish actor donned a navy blue suit to get into character.
Or:
For his role as John Sugar in the neo-noir mystery drama, the 48-year-old Irish actor put on a navy blue suit to embody his character.
Each of these sentences conveys the original meaning but in slightly different ways to keep the writing engaging and varied.
He completed his look with a black tie and added a pair of brown leather dress shoes.
Colin donned a pair of squared-frame sunglasses, shading his gaze, as he conversed with fellow actors on set.
The storyline tracks down a private detective named John, who delves into the mystery surrounding the vanishing of a prosperous filmmaker’s beloved grandchild.

After Colin disclosed the motive for placing his grown, disabled son in a care facility, it was clear he wanted to guarantee proper care management for his son, as long as he and his former partner remained alive. Additionally, he aimed to offer his son a robust sense of belonging within the community.
Earlier, the actor discussed that his son, aged 21, had been tragically misdiagnosed as having cerebral palsy. However, it was later discovered that he actually suffered from Angelman syndrome.
Angelman Syndrome, an uncommon genetic condition predominantly impacting the nervous system, leads to significant physical and cognitive impairment.
In an interview with Candis Magazine, Colin shared that him and his former partner, Kim Bordenave, have mutually decided and are preparing for the long-term placement of James in a specialized care home.
He mentioned: “It can be challenging, as some parents might express a desire to raise their child personally. And I fully acknowledge and appreciate that choice.
However distressing it might be to imagine, the thought that crosses my mind is: What if I suffer a heart attack tomorrow, and unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, James’ mother, Kim, gets involved in a car accident at the same time, leaving James all alone?
‘Then he’s a ward of the state and he goes where? We’d have no say in it.’
They’re aiming to discover a place they both enjoy, where he can visit currently, as long as they’re in good health, so they can have trips together and occasionally take him out.

Colin added: “Our goal is for him to discover a place that offers him a fulfilling and joyful existence, where he experiences a sense of belonging.
In the past, this actor who played in “The Phone Booth” had talked about his eldest son’s situation, mentioning that he fell behind on developmental milestones and found it challenging to sit or crawl when he was an infant. As a result, they consulted medical professionals for guidance.
Colin clarified that it’s common for those affected by the uncommon syndrome to be mistakenly diagnosed as having cerebral palsy, since both conditions share similar outward symptoms.
He shared with everyone that ‘[James] was unable to sit unaided. He wasn’t even attempting to crawl. It was around his first birthday and a half when we decided to thoroughly examine him, and he was eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy.’
Cerebral palsy refers to a group of disorders that impact movement and coordination, typically caused by damage to the brain either before, during, or shortly after birth.
Experiencing challenges with speech, eating, vision, and understanding, along with struggles in learning, could potentially indicate certain symptoms.
Colin mentioned that it was often mistakenly diagnosed due to its similarities with other conditions. Undoubtedly, this was quite disappointing.
During an interview, the Oscar-nominated individual disclosed that a pediatric neurologist had advised having James, who was approximately 2.5 years old at the time, assessed for Angelman syndrome.
Speaking about the memory of his diagnosis, he said, “I can still vividly recall the initial queries that came to my mind. They were, ‘How long do I have left and what kind of pain am I going to experience?’
The doctor explained, “Based on what we know, our life spans appear to be the same, and I don’t foresee any pain issues for either of us.
A doctor had noticed an unusual symptom that prompted him to test for Angelman syndrome.
The father-of-two stated that Colin explained one feature of Angelman syndrome involves frequent bouts of laughter, which was what he noticed James exhibiting, along with hand movements similar to waving.
Angelman syndrome is known for causing seizures, a challenge that Colin (father to Henry Tadeusz, 15, with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus) mentioned is one of the aspects that parents often find extremely difficult to cope with.
He stated: ‘Fortunately, James has not experienced a significant seizure for approximately 10 to 11 years, yet I have found myself in the back of an ambulance and in the hospital with him.’

I administered a rectal dose of the sedative, Diastat, to help stop a prolonged seizure that exceeded three minutes. Finding the correct dosage without causing unwanted side effects can be quite challenging in such delicate situations.
The actor has recently established the Colin Farrell Foundation, which aims to offer assistance, education, and advocacy for individuals dealing with intellectual disabilities in adulthood.
He’s never discussed it before, but since I can’t ask James directly, I’m bringing it up now. (He said)
The proud dad stated that his eldest son ‘has worked so hard all his life, so hard’.
He mentioned: ‘He keeps repeating things, finding balance, and his movements are jerky. When he began to feed himself for the first time, his face ended up looking like a Jackson Pollock painting. However, he manages to get it done, feeding himself so gracefully. I’m filled with pride each day because I truly believe he’s extraordinary, almost magical.’
Colin also described watching his son take his first steps just before his fourth birthday.
I saw that James’s caregivers were helping him learn to walk. Then, I watched as they allowed him to move freely, and he walked right up to me.

‘It was so profound. It was magic.
His resolute expression will always be etched in my memory as he approached me, taking about half a dozen strides. By then, I was already shedding tears.
Due to the severity of his condition, James can’t communicate verbally and needs constant assistance from a live-in care provider to manage his daily routines.
Back when I was just a sprightly four-year-old, Colin made a brave revelation about his child having Angelman Syndrome. What struck me was the incredible bravery he showed, standing tall amidst the challenges posed by his condition.
Just prior to James’s eighteenth birthday, Colin and Kim submitted an application for guardianship over him, indicating that he required assistance with daily activities such as dressing himself and preparing meals.
Later, he disclosed that him and James’s mom always celebrate small achievements and cherish milestones, regardless of when they occur – such as James saying his first words at age six, learning to feed himself at 19, and managing his seizures effectively.
As a die-hard fan, I’ve always admired Colin for his mysterious aura, but it wasn’t until recently that he opened up more about his personal life, particularly his son. However, it was during the 2007 Special Olympics when he first felt compelled to share publicly about the immense pride and joy our shared love for his son had brought him.
He expressed: ‘He has greatly impacted my life, yet I don’t wish to disregard the hardships experienced by numerous families; the anxiety, confusion, annoyance, and suffering they face… Being a parent of a child with special needs, it’s crucial to know that you’re not facing these challenges alone.’
In conversation about raising a child with special needs, the famous actor expressed that it was primarily due to James that he managed to overcome addiction.
From 2001 to 2003, Colin and James were dated by their shared mother, Kim. Later on, Colin began a relationship with Alicja, his co-star from Ondine, which lasted roughly from the end of 2008 to the beginning of 2010. During this time, they had a child named Henry together.
