Coleen Rooney puts on a defiant display as she shops for £200K supercars after being dragged back to court by Rebekah Vardy over £1.8M legal bills
As a seasoned observer of the high-stakes world of WAGs and their legal battles, I can’t help but be captivated by the ongoing saga between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy. The latest chapter unfolds in a courtroom, where these two formidable women are squaring off over a hefty legal bill that has escalated to a mind-boggling £1.8 million.
On Monday, Coleen Rooney boldly ventured out to browse extravagantly costly sports cars, following her return to court due to financial disputes concerning approximately £1.8 million in ‘Wagatha Christie’ legal expenses, instigated by Rebekah Vardy.
38-year-old WAG looked relaxed and stylish in a cozy cream cable knit sweater and jeans, striking a pose next to the motor vehicles following her visit and tour around the garage located in Stockport.
Initially, Coleen peeked at the luxurious Yangwang U9, priced at a staggering £184,000, on her visit to LSH auto BYD Stockport. She then posted it on her Instagram Stories as an exclusive sneak peek of the supercars Yangwang U8 and U9.
After receiving a tour from the gracious team, I had the pleasure of catching a glimpse of the all-new Seal U DM-i SUV Hybrid.
The event took place only a few hours following allegations by Coleen’s legal team that Rebekah Vardy had engaged in unacceptable behavior, as the ongoing libel dispute between the two WAGs known as ‘Wagatha Christie’ returned to court.
Coleen Rooney, the ex-captain of the English football team Wayne Rooney’s wife, is encountering a legal hurdle at London’s High Court. Rebekah (whose identity isn’t specified) is seeking to reduce her £1.8 million legal fee obligation in half.
In July 2022, Rebekah, who was previously married to Jamie Vardy, a former teammate of Wayne’s on the Three Lions, lost her lawsuit against Colleen due to accusations that she had leaked stories.
Now, she’s asking for half of the final agreement since it was claimed that Coleen had been billing for her attorney’s accommodation at a luxurious Nobu Hotel.
In 2019, Colleen levied accusations against Rebekah, claiming she had leaked her personal data from social media to the media. This claim was later substantiated by Judge Mrs Justice Steyn as being largely accurate.
In October 2022, the judge mandated that Rebekah was to cover 90% of her fellow WAG’s legal expenses, with an initial payment of £800,000 to be given.
The women’s lawyers have been back in court in London in a dispute over the amount to be paid, as lawyers for Rebekah said Coleen’s claimed legal bill totalled £1,833,906.89.
Rebekah’s attorneys contend that the other legal team intentionally provided misleading figures regarding their expenses, an act they believe was designed to deceive not only Vardy’s team but also the court itself.
Coleen’s representatives say it is ‘frankly outrageous’ to accuse them of dishonesty.
In his submitted statement on behalf of Coleen, Robin Dunne expressed that Rebekah displayed “unsatisfactory behavior” during the case proceedings. Additionally, he suggested that if Rebekah had handled this lawsuit more effectively, the costs might have been reduced.
He said: ‘This was a libel claim which Mrs Vardy chose to launch, despite knowing that the Instagram post was true.
Mrs. Vardy intentionally avoided interacting with Mrs. Rooney, which resulted in increased legal expenses for Mrs. Roody due to the extra efforts needed to handle the case without cooperation from Mrs. Vardy.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: “I find it hard to agree with Mrs. Vardy when she says that the expenses incurred by Mrs. Rooney, many of which stemmed from her actions, are unfair.
He explained that the budget provided by his client wasn’t meant to reflect precise or obligatory figures for her total legal expenses.
He added: ‘There has been no misconduct here. Had Mrs Vardy conducted this matter in a reasonable fashion, Mrs Rooney would be confined to her budget and would have recovered no more absent good reason.’
And in court, he said it was ‘illogical to say that we misled anyone’.
In simpler terms, during court proceedings, it was stated by Jamie Carpenter KC, acting on behalf of Rebekah, that the alleged £1.8 million legal fee encompassed expenses such as a lawyer’s accommodation at the Nobu Hotel, significant dining and beverage costs, along with charges for mini bar items.
Today’s reports indicate that some of the alleged expenses included a £2,000 bill for her lawyer’s accommodation at London’s luxury Nobu Hotel, as well as a £225 charge for food and mini-bar usage.
Mr. Carpenter stated that the cost disagreement has become especially difficult to resolve due to the immense amount of costs Mrs. Rooney is demanding, both in total and in relation to her pre-agreed budget. Additionally, there are numerous errors in the bill and some of the costs being claimed are quite unusual.
‘The bill, drawn at 100 per cent of the costs claimed, totals £1,833,906.89.’
Mr Carpenter said the bill was ‘drawn without sufficient care’ and had ‘a kitchen sink approach’, and included ‘over £120,000 of costs to which Coleen had no entitlement’.
He also said that Coleen’s barrister David Sherborne ‘charged total fees over the course of the proceedings of £497,850’.
