Coleen Rooney admits she ‘barely sees’ Wayne as he only comes home ‘once or twice a week’ and reveals her mum will look after their kids while she’s on I’m a Celeb – as she draws a line under Rebekah Vardy saga

Her life experiences have been a rollercoaster, from navigating the tumultuous world of celebrity to raising a brood of boys who prioritize football over family reunions – a testament to their passion for the game.
Among the high-profile celebrities participating in this year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, Coleen Rooney is considered a strong contender for winning the title – and perhaps sharing some intriguing tales about life as a WAG along the way.
Even though they have been apart for nearly a month now, and their four sons’ father, ex-England soccer captain Wayne Rooney, former Coleen Rooney has confessed that the couple’s lives have grown separate due to his new commitments, leaving them barely able to spend time together.
On the premiere of the popular ITV program tonight, the WAG notes that due to Wayne’s management role at Championship team Plymouth Argyle since May, their time spent together has become more restricted, with most of their encounters happening on Sundays.
After traveling to Australia recently, Coleen (aged 38) shared her feelings about the Mail on Sunday, expressing the strain caused by the 260-mile gap between them. Since Wayne spends most of his week in Salcombe, Devon – a five-hour drive from their home in Cheshire.
However, she mentioned that prior to embarking on her jungle adventure, they spent a delightful family day together over the weekend. They dined as a group, and also attended their 11-year-old son Klay’s football match.
‘Wayne comes back once a week, sometimes twice, depending on the fixtures,’ Coleen explains.
Typically, he doesn’t work on Sundays, so there’s a chance he’ll return home. The advantage of this tournament is that many matches are in the North, making them more convenient for me. Therefore, he’ll be home on Saturday night and likely spend Sunday with us, assuming his plans don’t conflict with the boys’ activities.
‘Time together is limited, more so than ever now because of the travelling and stuff.’
Meanwhile, when Coleen is 10,000 miles off, filming a series with Tulisa Contostavlos, a former X Factor judge and N-Dubz singer, as well as boxer Barry McGuigan, and in a reported £1.5million deal, Wayne will stay in Devon. It is Coleen’s mother Colette who will take care of the boys during this time.
Wayne is “on board” with her choice to leave, she explains, and he was the one she called last before her phone was taken away. She merely ensured everything was in order before speaking to her mother who takes care of their children as well as Wayne. Essentially, it was a simple “good luck” call, and she wanted to check if the kids had made it to school safely.
Coleen, well-known for her passion for high-end design clothing and previously spearheading a £3 million campaign for George at Asda, has earned praise for her humble demeanor and commitment to charitable work.
In May of 2006, Colleen started her career in presenting, sharing the screen with Sir Trevor McDonald in a show focusing on Rett Syndrome, a genetic disorder that severely impaired her adopted younger sister Rosie, who tragically passed away at the age of 14 in 2013. Following this, Colleen continued to present her own series, “Coleen’s Real Women,” where she highlighted everyday women instead of models, for prominent advertising campaigns, earning her the title of ‘the nation’s favorite girl next door.’
The executives at ITV have acknowledged her charm for a long time and have reportedly been trying to get her on “I’m A Celebrity” for several years. However, she has consistently declined their invitations to prioritize her family instead.
Now that her youngest child, Cass, is six years old, she feels prepared enough to tackle the task at hand and fulfill a desire of her own.
Coleen expresses that what she did is something she won’t repeat in her lifetime. She describes it as a unique experience, suggesting it was an exception rather than the norm due to our busy modern lives and constant use of devices. Coleen feels this could be her chance to do something for herself, as she often finds herself being a mom or wife.
As a devoted admirer, I’d say this series transports me into an ideal realm. It offers a refreshing escape from my usual whirlwind of activities, immersing me instead in a world that strips things back to essentials. Here, survival and self-care become my sole responsibility.
Despite recognizing that she’ll step outside her familiar surroundings, she views this chance as a unique opportunity for regular TV viewers to get an authentic glimpse of who she truly is. She puts it this way: “This show will reveal more about me than ever before. Everyone has their own perceptions of public figures.
Many of these opinions stemmed from the highly-publicized conflict between Coleen and Rebekah Vardy, a fellow WAG, culminating in a costly court battle that amounted to 1.8 million pounds.
In simpler terms, when Rebekah was accused, she not only rejected the claims but also filed a lawsuit against Coleen for defamation. This case, known as the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial, ended up ruling in favor of Coleen, making Rebekah responsible for paying around £1.5 million towards Coleen’s legal expenses.
Just last month, Vardy was ordered to pay £100,000 of the money she owes.
Previously, Colleen shared her perspective through a documentary on Disney+ that cost £1 million, but it’s likely that ITV executives are eager to hear more anecdotes during her time in the jungle.
But they may be left disappointed – Coleen says she’s ‘drawn a line under’ the saga.
She remarks, “I’ve visited that location before and handled it.” Now, I’m focusing on progressing and not dwelling on the past. It’s a pattern in my life to address situations, move forward when necessary, and keep going.
‘There are more important things to think about with the family and kids.’
Reflecting on the past, it’s clear that she has faced numerous challenges. Her 16-year long marriage with Wayne, who she met at age 12 in Liverpool, hasn’t been free of public controversies.
Prior to their extravagant wedding in Portofino, Italy in 2008, Wayne had confessed to engaging in intimate relations with prostitutes. This was following his exposure on CCTV at a Liverpool brothel. One of these women, a 48-year-old individual often referred to as ‘Auld Slapper’, wore a rubber catsuit. Later, he was involved in a threesome with two other women, Helen Wood and Jenny Thompson, at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester in 2010.
More recently, in 2017, he was apprehended for driving a vehicle belonging to estate agent Laura Simpson from Cheshire, exceeding the legal alcohol limit. However, Colleen has remained steadfast in her support during these events.
Since he’s involved with football, Wayne won’t catch a flight to Australia to see Coleen off as she crosses the famous bridge there.
Instead, that duty will fall to the couple’s youngest sons, Kit, 8, and young Cass.
And the reason her elder sons Kai, 15, and 11-year-old Klay won’t make it?
They don’t want to miss football, she says.
According to Colleen, each of them was given a choice, but the elder two opted to remain at home so they could carry on with their studies and football.
It seems I previously suggested that they should bring their work when they visit, but unfortunately, that meant they’d miss out on some football tournaments. As a result, they made a swift decision to alter their plans.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment that they didn’t all make it here. Yet, in a strange twist of logic, it seems fitting given the importance of their personal lives. They both wisely decided not to miss out on anything back home, and I can’t help but admire their balance between duty and passion.
‘As soon as the show’s over, I’m back straight away.
“It seems like that crucial moment was the missed football pass. That’s what likely led them to not wanting to skip any tournaments.
After leaving the jungle camp, numerous participants are thrilled to reunite with their everyday luxuries such as comfortable mattresses, delicious food, and stylish clothing.
As a lifestyle expert, I can emphatically express that, in my own words, what Colleen yearns for most is crystal clear: above everything else, she longs to gather with her sons at their favorite spot, the bridge, regardless of who joins – as long as it’s just the two of them.
She remarks, “This moment will undoubtedly be the most enchanting, as it signifies the longest separation I would have experienced from them. It’s been challenging for me to consent to participate in this show after all these years, primarily due to my reluctance to part from the children for such a prolonged period.
I believe that since they are old enough to comprehend, and with this strong support system taking care of them, I have faith that everything will turn out well.
Regarding if more exposure from the show could affect things for Coleen, she considers it rather improbable.
She humorously replies that instead of being called the Queen of the Jungle, she’d prefer to simply be recognized as Colleen from Liverpool.
‘I don’t hail from any other kind of location; I am who I’ve always been, and I hope others recognize this as the Liverpool native I’ve consistently been.’
