Coleen Nolan reveals she checks thoroughly for cancer every day after the tragic effects the disease has had on her family

As an ardent fan of the Nolan sisters, I find myself deeply moved by their heartwrenching journey against cancer. Their stories are a poignant testament to resilience, courage, and the unbreakable bond of sisterhood.

Every day, Coleen Nolan makes it a habit to look for potential signs of cancer, as the devastating impact this disease has had on her loved ones has made it a regular practice for her.

One of the Loose Women hosts, being one out of six siblings, openly confessed her fear that she might be the relative who contracts the illness in the future.

The Nolan family has been deeply impacted by cancer following the passing of Bernie, age 52, in 2013, who fought bravely against breast cancer for three years.

Simultaneously, Anne, aged 73, and Linda, aged 65, have both fought breast cancer. Unfortunately, Linda’s condition worsened when the cancer recurred in 2017, leading to a terminal diagnosis.

To The Mirror, Coleen candidly shared her safety precautions, expressing: “We’ve experienced so much sorrow… I’m constantly vigilant. There’s always a part of me wondering, ‘Could I have overlooked something?'”

Whenever I take a shower, I always make sure to examine myself thoroughly and if at any point I feel uncomfortable or dislike something, I immediately schedule an appointment with my doctor for prompt attention. Usually, they reassure me that it could be a minor cyst or infection.

While Coleen Crosses her fingers hoping to avoid getting the disease, she shared that should she have bad luck, she desires to detect it as soon as possible.

She openly disclosed her healthcare expenses, stating, “‘I pay around £225 annually for my breast specialist. Some might think, ‘You’re lucky, you have money’. Yet, one could potentially use that amount in a year on food deliveries, at bars, or on tobacco products.'”

Besides undergoing her biannual mammogram through the National Health Service, the television personality also covers the costs for routine consultations with a breast specialist.

Anne Nolan, the oldest among the Nolan sisters, received a cancer diagnosis back in 2000. More recently, in 2020, she disclosed that she had previously been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

Luckily, it turned out that she was cancer-free by December of the same year, following her treatment with chemotherapy.

In 2005, Linda, their other sister who is now 65 years old, was initially detected with stage-three breast cancer. However, she received a clean bill of health in 2006.

But the disease sadly returned in 2017 and spread to her liver and brain.

Colleen shared with the press that Linda eventually acknowledged she delayed seeking medical attention for too long, while Anne discovered lumps on two occasions, each time as small as a grain of rice, and she has never required a mastectomy.

Currently, Anne was deeply moved as she shared details about her ongoing health struggle from earlier this month.

In conversation with host Christine Lampard about her health journey, she shared: ‘I feel incredibly fortunate as I battled cancer for the first time back in 2000. After undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery, I’m grateful to be here today.’

Six months following chemotherapy, I seemed to recover well. Then, nearly two decades later, on almost the same date, the cancer reappeared in another part of my breast.

Two decades after her initial battle with cancer, Anne disclosed that upon its return, there were actually two distinct forms of the disease. Consequently, she underwent additional rounds of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and a subsequent surgical procedure.

With a quiver in my voice, I share this heartening news: I find myself at ease, knowing that I have another year until my formal release.

‘But I’m clear of cancer at the moment thank goodness. I count myself really, really lucky.’

Occasionally, you might encounter families with three kids who’ve all battled cancer. In this perspective, it’s also worth noting that we’re somewhat fortunate since only three of us have faced this challenge.

In March, it was disclosed that Linda’s most recent cancer scan indicated ‘no further development of the illness,’ following news that her tumors had decreased in size.

In honor of her sister, Anne expressed: “Linda isn’t in great health currently, but she’s amazingly optimistic about everything. She refers to her tough times as ‘duvet days.'”

‘But she still goes out, she does things with the family and gets out there. She doesn’t let it get her down too much, she’s amazing.’

Previously, I expressed that my sister Linda being with me throughout my cancer treatment was an absolute ‘standout experience’ for me.

In a shared interview with New! Magazine back in 2021, the sisters opened up about their cancer journey, revealing that it had strengthened their bond as a family. They additionally touched upon their latest collaborative work, a heartfelt book titled “Stronger Together.”

Anne found comfort knowing Linda was there with her during the coronavirus pandemic, as it was not possible for anyone else to accompany her to the hospital, and typically her daughters Amy and Alex would have been present for her treatment.
