Cold Feet star responds to return for Gavin & Stacey-style Christmas special

It’s been six years since Cold Feet last aired, and it didn’t seem like the show would be coming back anytime soon. However, John Thomson, who played Pete Gifford, recently suggested the possibility of a Christmas special in the style of Gavin & Stacey.

This popular comedy-drama originally aired from 1998 to 2003, following the lives of three couples as they dealt with the joys and challenges of love and family.

The show returned in 2016 with many of the original actors, and four more seasons aired on ITV. After the ninth season ended, however, the series went on a long break.

Though a full revival of the show isn’t currently in the works, Thomson hinted that a get-together with his former castmates might open the door to a special episode.

I’m having lunch with Jimmy Nesbitt, Fay Ripley, and Cel Spellman for charity in March, so we’ll all be getting together then,” he shared on Radio X’s The Chris Moyles Show.

The actor suggested that instead of continuing with another full season, a Christmas special would be a great way to revisit the show, especially considering the success of Gavin & Stacey. He’s also known for his roles in The Fast Show and Coronation Street.

After the ninth season ended in 2020, the show’s creator, Mike Bullen, announced that the comedy-drama wouldn’t be returning anytime soon, explaining that they had finished telling the story they set out to tell.

We’ve thoroughly examined the challenges the characters are facing right now,” he explained. “We want to let them grow and develop, and create some distance between their current stories and what we’ve already shown.

Bullen, the creator of the Australian mystery-thriller North Shore, hinted that Cold Feet might return someday, saying they plan to revisit the show later to explore the challenges and joys of getting older.

Cold Feet is available to stream on ITVX.
