Cody Simpson is making a comeback to music after taking several years off to compete as a swimmer.
The 28-year-old Commonwealth Games gold medallist has rediscovered his love for music, three years after his previous album came out.
He shared that he’s making a comeback to music and has been compiling a lot of new material. The lyrics will reflect on his life story so far, he told The Daily Telegraph.
When it comes to the sound, I’m really building on all my life experiences. It’s like everything I’ve ever done musically comes together in this work.
He shared that his latest music is deeply personal and more reflective than anything he’s created before.
He explained that the work feels like a culmination of everything he’s experienced, a way to embrace all sides of himself while still feeling new and current.
I’ve rediscovered my love for swimming, and it feels amazing! I thought I’d lost my enthusiasm, but it’s actually really exciting to feel passionate about it again.
He added he was working hard to ensure his new music was released early next year.
Cody became well-known in 2009 when he started posting videos of himself singing on YouTube, and this helped him begin his career as a musician.
In 2010, the singer relocated to Los Angeles to work with Atlantic Records. They’ve recorded albums at Village Studios in West Los Angeles and recently performed at venues like the Malibu Guitar Festival and The Troubadour.
He turned professional in swimming in 2019 and achieved a major victory by winning a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
He paused his music to attempt to qualify for the Olympics as a swimmer representing Australia, but didn’t make the team and went back to making music.
He once wrote that the best you can do is simply make the most of the resources and opportunities you have.

The Gold Coast-born performer is dating fellow Australian swimming champion Emma McKeon.
Cody and Emma publicly acknowledged their relationship in July 2022, with Cody sharing how Emma had positively impacted his career as a professional swimmer.
They’ve consistently cheered each other on at important events, such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where Emma had a remarkably successful performance.
The couple has been seen relaxing and having fun together, whether it’s at the beach, social gatherings, or romantic dates in various beautiful places around the globe.
Cody has even spoken about marriage potentially being on the cards.
Oh my gosh, he said it! He actually said we have something *beautiful*, *honest*, and *pure*! I nearly fainted! And then… then he hinted at marriage! Like, seriously, marriage could actually happen! I’m losing it, this is everything I’ve ever dreamed of!
