Cody Rhodes stands at number 1 of the PWI 500
As someone who’s been following the world of professional wrestling for close to three decades now, I must say, every year, the PWI 500 list stirs up quite the debate! This year is no different, with Cody Rhodes reigning supreme. It’s a testament to his journey and the story he’s been weaving since WrestleMania 40.
Here we go again, the PWI 500 has been released and it’s sparking heated conversations online. Isn’t it customary for such a list to stir debate? This year, Cody Rhodes leads the pack. There are numerous noteworthy figures spanning various sectors on this list that highlights industry achievements.
Following his victory at WrestleMania 40, Rhodes could earn another achievement in 2024 by being recognized as the leading figure in professional wrestling for the first time. His impressive 157-day tenure as the WWE Undisputed Champion has contributed to this recognition, and he’s also been successful in establishing himself as a significant face of the company. This is evident in his strong sales of merchandise, which boost attendance every week. However, there are some who have expressed dissatisfaction with his championship reign so far, making it a topic worth debating.
2021 saw a stellar lineup of the leading male performers gracing the top 10 rankings. Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay, Seth Rollins, Naito, Damian Priest, MJF, Jon Moxley, Gunther, and Caristico are the ones who made it to this esteemed list. The question remains as to their exact placement, omissions, and possible replacements. However, each one of them has earned their spot with exceptional performances that solidified their place in the top 10.
11th to 20th place in the wrestling lineup are occupied by Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre, Bryan Danielson, Moose, SANADA, Jey Uso, El Hijo del Vikingo, Mustafa Ali, and Eddie Kingston. Last but not least is Memes.
Not only men, but there are also several women on this list. Some of them include Jessica Troy, Allie Katch, Jody Threat, Rhino (possibly a nickname), DELTA, Billie Starkz, Megan Bayne, and Maki Itoh.
Each year’s assessment span lasts from August through the following July. Their performance is judged based on their win-loss ratio, titles they’ve won, caliber of opponents, significant rivalries, influence within their league, and overall wrestling skills.
