Cody Johnson: From rodeo buckles to global hits – why this country star can’t wait to return to Australia
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for authenticity and a deep appreciation for country music, I am thrilled about Cody Johnson’s upcoming return to Australia. Having had the privilege of witnessing the electrifying energy that Australian crowds bring to their favorite artists, I can attest that Cody Johnson is in for an unforgettable experience.
Country music star Cody Johnson is preparing for his eagerly awaited comeback to Australia, fulfilling the pledge he made to his Aussie fans.
Following his previous visit where he captured both admiration and a belt buckle, the Texas cowboy is set to return to Australian land, this time showcasing his unique combination of rustic authenticity and popular country tunes.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Australia before the CMC Rocks 2025 event, the 37-year-old Johnson reminisced warmly about his affection for Australia, recounting cherished moments spent Down Under.
The music star, true to his word, confirmed his return as he had promised during his initial visit.
Instead of boasting about chart-topping albums and packed concerts, Cody can point to something unique in his collection: the rodeo belt buckle he earned during his most recent trip.
He chuckled modestly, but he couldn’t help mentioning that he had won a belt buckle in a rodeo. Luke Combs seemed surprised when he said, ‘Who can do that?’, to which he replied, ‘I can, man.’
It’s not just the rodeo that keeps Johnson coming back to Australia.
On his recent tour alongside renowned country artist Combs, Johnson was astounded by the fervor displayed by Australian audiences.
Upon arrival, no matter which city we performed in, the crowd was shouting my lyrics even louder than I was singing them, he marveled, still amazed.
‘It really warmed my heart up because I didn’t realise my music had made it so far from America.’
Cody, famous for songs such as “Till You Can’t” and “The Painter”, was deeply touched by the warm response he got from his fans.
On more than one occasion, I felt the brink of tears on stage, and I found myself thinking, “Look at that young boy who dreamt of becoming a country music artist, and now, it’s me.
Johnson’s newest song, titled “Dirt Cheap,” is creating a splash, and he plans to unveil an extended version, “Leather: The Deluxe Edition,” prior to the commencement of his tour in November. This means that Australian fans will have additional tracks to savor during the concert.
He mentioned that there will be plenty more content for fans to explore before we meet up, hinting at some fresh work that is guaranteed to keep them engaged.
Despite the global success and a staggering 7.5 billion streams to his name, Cody remains grounded.
‘I don’t think of myself as the big star, the big guy,’ he admitted humbly.
It seems to me that the essence lies within the music – creating genuine, heartfelt music that resonates deeply with audiences. That moment when you step onto the stage and see their eyes light up because they believe in your authenticity, that’s what keeps them returning time and again.
Apart from the music, it’s evident that Australia means something profound to Cody, going beyond just his fans. It echoes strongly with his own Texas heritage due to its cowboy culture.
Johnson affectionately reminisced about his rodeo adventure with Aussie cowboy Wade Forrester, whom he now counts as a dear friend.
He’s planning to visit Texas next month, where we’ll spend time together, engaging in some traditional cowboy activities.
In March 2025, Johnson is set to be the main attraction at Australia’s largest country music event, CMC Rocks Queensland. He will perform alongside Thomas Rhett and Jon Pardi.
The CMC Rocks QLD festival is coming back to Willowbank from March 21st through the 23rd. You can get your general admission tickets starting at 10am on September 12th. Check out cmcrocks.com for ticket information.
