TapCaps, a new business created by popular content creators Clix and Lacy, has received a varied response since it was announced.
Content creators Lacy Fosco and Clix announced TapCap, new keycaps for keyboards that also work as fidget toys. However, fans weren’t thrilled with the announcement due to the high cost and the fact that they’re sold as a surprise ‘mystery box’.

The pair announced it through a short 30-minute livestream and a stylized ad.
Lacy immediately announced the price would be $11.99, emphasizing it was an affordable option—definitely not something costing $40 or $50. This announcement sparked mixed reactions in the chat, with some users labeling it a potential scam while others considered the price to be very reasonable.
These mystery boxes mean the contents are a surprise until you open them. TapCaps come in seven different designs, and the rarest – Slime Guy – has only a 1 in 102 chance of appearing. Keep in mind you might receive a design you already own, particularly the more common ones.
Even though opinions were mixed overall, most people still thought TapCaps were too expensive. However, many in the industry praised Clix and Lacy for launching them, and the initial stock sold out within a day.
Is TapCap really overpriced?
TapCap keycaps are definitely more expensive than most. You can find a good keycap set with over 100 pieces for around $30. Since TapCaps cost $12 each, buying three of them costs about the same as a complete new keycap set.
Compared to handmade or specialty keycaps, TapCaps are surprisingly affordable. Plus, they can be used as standalone decorations – you don’t need a keyboard to display them.
The surprise element of the mystery boxes could be a drawback for some, as you might receive a TapCap you already own if you buy more than one. This could lead to people reselling TapCaps online, though that might be intentional on Clix and Lacy’s part. Because TapCaps are made in large quantities, some collectors might see them as less valuable than handmade, artisanal options.
As of the time of writing, TapCaps are still sold out on the official website.
