Clea Shearer’s Shocking Emergency Surgery After Cancer Battle

I’m sharing this update as a devoted follower: Clea Shearer disclosed on Tuesday that she needs an urgent operation to manage a severe issue stemming from multiple cancer surgeries, which she describes as traumatic.

43-year-old Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host underwent a double mastectomy about two years back, following her diagnosis of breast cancer.

However, following eight operations, during which her ovaries were removed, Clea acknowledged that she would need another operation, as it seemed one of her breast implants was leaking.

Previously, in February, she disclosed that she was experiencing difficulties with her right breast and the implant therein. At that moment, she shed tears due to the worry that she might lose her breasts for a second time if the implant needed to be taken out.

Tuesday’s update suggested that the reality show host hadn’t been able to escape those fears.

In a surprising yet calm manner, Clea shared that she’s about to undergo her ninth surgery, straight away heading to the hospital as she began her video.

She explained that for a long time, her right breast has been causing problems and complications for her, and now it seems to have reached its breaking point.

Lately, I’ve noticed an increase in fluid discharge from the surgical site due to my implant being open and leaking significantly. This is what Clea shared with me.

Since she was on a journey, she mentioned that she reached out to her physician who advised her to keep the wound area wrapped in bandages.

After returning home, it was mentioned that she would need another operation – this being her ninth due to her breast cancer diagnosis. This surgery would involve completely removing her right implant, allowing her natural breast to flatten and be replaced with a prosthesis.

Her voice began to crack as she admitted that she had been fearing a similar outcome.

Clea confessed that it’s tough for her to express this without tearing up, as this situation unfortunately takes her back to April 2022, soon after her double mastectomy. She shared that she’ll undergo a unilateral mastectomy on one side, resulting in her becoming flat.

Following her operation, the Extreme Makeover host is expected to have only one implant for a number of months, at minimum.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share this exciting news: She plans to undergo Latissimus dorsi flap surgery in November. This procedure could restore her original breast shape while potentially minimizing the post-op complications she’s faced lately.

To carry out the process, doctors cut an opening on the upper back close to the shoulder blade for the purpose of extracting both skin and adipose tissue, along with associated blood vessels and a section of the latissimus muscle – this particular muscle plays a role in rotational movements.

In this process, the tissue is employed to restore the breast’s form, and fat can serve as an alternative to breast implants.

Alternative areas for breast reconstruction may be chosen based on a patient’s specific requirements, such as other parts of the body with excess skin and fat.

Patients who undergo Latissimus dorsi flap surgery frequently find that implants are inserted beneath the newly created tissue, since there is typically less skin and fat moved from this area than in other donor sites.

Clea mentioned, ‘I’m hoping that resolves all these crazy complexities. However, this situation is particularly tough on me.’

A positive outcome from this situation is that she has become incredibly skilled in performing surgeries, having had so many due to her battle with cancer.

She was unsure about this one. From what I can tell, the degree of distress involved might prove too challenging for her.

In most cases, when I undergo a surgery, I fervently wish for an improvement afterwards. That’s the whole purpose of it.

As a lifestyle expert, I can empathize with her sentiments. Instead of the anticipation that usually comes before a procedure, she expressed a sense of setback, saying this upcoming surgery felt more like a step backwards compared to her double mastectomy.

‘Anyway, like I said, this is not what I wanted, but I’m out of options,’ she concluded her video.

Clea revealed back in February that she was suffering complications with the same breast. 

Due to experiencing severe pain in her right breast and what appeared to be an infection, she was compelled to scrap a scheduled flight so she could appear on LIVE! With Kelly And Mark. To treat the issue, she needed to take powerful antibiotics.

Initially, she shared with her followers that her physician advised her to mentally prepare for potentially requiring a flatter physical appearance. This news left her in tears.

She mentioned that many women opt for the same route, yet it wasn’t her intention. After enduring a year and a half filled with numerous surgeries, she felt overwhelmed as she sought to regain a sense of wholeness within herself.

Yet, Clea noted that her mother emphasized their current situation wasn’t a return to the starting point. Even though going back to her post-mastectomy state was inevitable, she remained in remission from cancer.
