Clayton Kershaw’s possible Dodger Stadium finale will be on Apple TV+. Here’s why

Dodgers fans are loyal supporters of SportsNet LA, consistently tuning in and spending a considerable amount of money to watch their favorite team.

But not this Friday, when Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to pitch at Dodger Stadium, potentially for the last time.

Apple TV+ has the exclusive rights to broadcast this baseball game, as they purchased a package of Friday night games from Major League Baseball. League officials say Apple is guaranteed at least four exclusive games each season, and they get to choose which teams to show. This Friday’s game is the Dodgers’ fourth exclusive broadcast on Apple TV+ this year, meaning it can only be watched on their platform.

Apple’s Friday baseball game featured the Toronto Blue Jays. When it looked like the Blue Jays might secure a playoff spot on Friday, Apple and MLB made a deal with Sportsnet – the Canadian broadcast partner for the Blue Jays – to also show the game that was originally on Apple TV+. (This change was announced Thursday, but Toronto couldn’t clinch a playoff spot on Friday anyway after losing their game and Cleveland winning.)

Dodgers

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw announced his retirement, explaining he wants to leave the game while still performing at a high level and confident in his ability to compete.

However, the Jays will total five exclusive Apple TV+ broadcasts this season.

This won’t be the first time Dodgers history has been exclusive to Apple viewers. Back in 2022, Apple also broadcast the game where Albert Pujols hit his 700th home run.

Wayne Randazzo, the announcer for the Angels, will be calling both the Pujols and Kershaw games for Apple.

Well, folks, it looks like an era is coming to a close. Clayton Kershaw, the legendary Dodgers pitcher – an 11-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young winner – announced he’s retiring at the end of this season. He’s scheduled to pitch Friday against the Giants, and after that series, the Dodgers wrap up the regular season on the road. The big question now is what, if any, role Kershaw will have when the playoffs roll around. The team hasn’t said much on that front yet, but you can bet all of Dodger Stadium will be hoping for one last appearance from this incredible player.

You can try Apple TV+ for free for seven days. Just remember, if you only want to watch Kershaw, cancel your subscription before the trial ends to avoid a monthly charge of $12.99.
